3 year anniversary of The Natural Family BLOG!
I put together this short montage as an overview of my three years of Blogging:
It is also located on my share page
On Friday July 4th, 2008 I celebrated three years of Blogging.
This video is an overview of some of the photos and videos from these three years of sharing portions of my life on the internet.
I discovered this amazing song in the easy listening music catagory at One True Media. Only by Faith is the music used to accompany the montage.
It was written by Rom Ryan.
Here are the lyrics to the song:
ONLY BY FAITH by Rom Ryan
FAITH A VOICE IN THE DARKNESS
A STAR THERE TO GUIDE US
WHEN WE LOSE OUR WAY
FAITH
EVEN WHEN WE ARE FALLEN
INTO THE FIRE
CONSUMED BY THE FLAME
WELL RISE FROM THE ASHES
ONLY BY FAITH
FAITH
A PROMISE UNBROKEN
THE POWER THAT GUIDES US
WHEN WE BELIEVE
FAITH
EVEN WHEN WE ARE FALLEN
INTO THE FIRE
CONSUMED BY THE FLAME
WELL RISE FROM THE ASHES
ONLY BY FAITH
INSTRUMENTAL BREAK
ONLY BY FAITH
LOVE CONQUERS HATRED
PEACE DEFEATS WAR
ONLY BY FAITH
JOY OVERCOMES SORROW
HOPE REPLACES DESPAIR
WE FALL IN THE FIRE
CONSUMED BY THE FLAME
WE RISE FROM THE ASHES
ONLY BY FAITH
I sent an email to Rom yesterday asking him about the lyrics and he was kind enough to email them to me, he also said:

Hi Jenny,
Thanks for the generous comments. I've got a cd coming out sometime in the next year that will be vocal based, and will have all material along the lines of OBF. The singer on the recording you heard is Arlandus Chimney he's the bass player in Moodafaruka as well as a wonderful singer.
The lyrics to OBF are below.
Thanks for having us in the mix,
Rom
If you enjoyed this song, go check out his web site for more information on the new CD as well as his other wonderful CD's!

Freebirth: A Message to Obstetricians from Jenny Hatch, "Physician Heal THYSELF!!"
This video is hosted on My Share Page at One True Media
In the past few months four obstetrics societies have made public statements about Unassisted Childbirth.
The Canadian Doctors (SOGC):
The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC)
The Australian and New Zealand Doctors:
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
The Royal College (RCOG) in the UK:
The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG)
And in a recent article in the Denver Westword Newspaper (I was interviewed for this story)
A Spokesperson for ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) claimed freebirth was "dangerous".
Childbirth goes solo.
By Jared Jacang Maher
Published: May 10, 2007
"According to the guidelines of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the organization "strongly opposes" any birth not performed inside a hospital. A spokesman for the ACOG has a one-word assessment of freebirth: "dangerous."
I have just one message for these doctors, and it is this:
"The moral of the proverb is counsel to prove your trustworthiness with your own affairs before attempting to tell others what they should do."

Break out of the Matrix!
When the various obstetrics societies PROVE that they have the will to reform themselves internally by setting up standards of care that are more about the mother and the baby than they are about the doctor and staff at the hospital, then I will feel more open about listening to any edicts they have about my lifestyle.
Hey Doctors: why don't you set some goals....
1. No inductions before 41 weeks
2. 10% C-section rate
3. No elective C-sections
4. Full acceptance of Lay and Nurse Midwifery both in the home and at the hospital
5. A Complete and total acceptance of VBAC (Vaginal Birth after Cesarean)
6. A willingness to embrace proper prenatal nutrition as the foundation for a healthy pregnancy as outlined by the Brewer Pregnancy Diet
When society stops locking up our midwives for bogus reasons, embrace and promote natural mothering as the IDEAL for a new baby (Natural Childbirth, Attachment Parenting, and Long Term Ecological Breastfeeding), then I will believe you have found your soul as doctors.
Until then? Well, I am going to continue promoting freebirth and encouraging families to break away from your way of giving birth, because frankly, the way you do it stinks.
Lamaze International has a white paper on Elective cesarean Vs. Vaginal Birth (PDF)
American College of Nurse Midwives:
RISKS OF CESAREAN DELIVERY ARE UNDERREPORTED,
BENEFITS OVERSTATED
Media Briefing Highlights Concerns In Advance of NIH Conference
QUOTE:
"Only women themselves can tell us if they are actually demanding cesarean section surgery. With what we are learning from Childbirth Connection today, we now know that women VERY rarely schedule first cesareans by choice without a medical reason," says Susan Hodges, president of Citizens for Midwifery. "Only women can tell us what kind of informed consent process was provided to them. Citizens for Midwifery believes that women are not being given adequate and unbiased information about all the risks and benefits of cesarean sections. Research is needed to understand who and what are now influencing decisions to perform major abdominal surgery 'for no medical reason' despite substantial evidence that all cesareans increase harmful risks for mothers and babies."

Free yourself from the Matrix~!

Blogging Break
Apostle M. Russell Nelson spoke about New Media and encouraged graduating students to write a blog to "contribute to a national conversation about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
Expecting Benjamin in 2002.
I did five liver cleanses during my pregnancy with Ben. I KNOW it helped me during the birth. After almost dying during my fourth birth from a hemorrhage that took me down to a crit of 4.7, I had no excessive bleeding after Bens home birth and the cleanses helped tremendously in that regard. A clean and fully functioning liver is the key to a healthy pregnancy, a large healthy placenta, and a safe and satisfying home birth.
I'm going to take a blogging break during the month of September to finish my 4th book, Liver Cleansing during the Childbearing Season.
I have been working on this book off and on (mostly off) for eleven years, and feel that now is the time to finally put it together.
It will be available as an E-book on my web site: The Natural Family Company
Quotes originated from The Brewer Pregnancy Hotline, Book by Gail Krebs
QUOTES:
"The liver is the master gland of metabolism and cellular nutrition. All food substances absorbed from the stomach and intestines pass directly into the liver where they are changed in various ways to provide all the cells of the body with food materials for growth, repair, and energy. Special enzymes and proteins, such as the albumin discussed previously, are continually formed and released into the bloodstream.
During pregnancy there is an increased need for proteins. Growth and development of the baby, growth of the uterus, growth of the placenta, expansion of blood volume, and storage of protein for use in later breastfeeding – all of these demand increased liver metabolism. A good diet throughout pregnancy provides the liver with the needed food substances to fulfill its round-the-clock task of meeting stepped-up nutritional demands.
A second function the liver performs at higher levels in pregnancy is neutralizing and excreting harmful poisons which originate in the lower bowel. Termed its detoxication function, it has led to the liver being termed “the watchdog of the abdomen.” All blood draining the stomach and intestinal tract goes first into the liver, where it is filtered before passing into the general circulation. The liver then excretes all toxic substances in the bile and urine.
Female hormones produced in large quantities by the placenta are also detoxified and excreted by the liver. Towards the end of pregnancy, the amount of hormones produced daily is several hundred times greater than the amount contained in a birth control pill. If the mother is malnourished, the liver may fall behind in its task of clearing these hormones and other toxins from the body. They then accumulate in the liver and body tissues and begin to impair the liver’s ability to function. The poorly nourished woman’s liver cannot meet these extreme demands for detoxification.
Furthermore, research confirms that stressed livers of poorly nourished pregnant women also have low resistance to liver infections. These liver disorders can further damage the liver’s ability to carry on its metabolic functions. A pregnant woman who develops a liver infection is at greater risk because of the extra stress pregnancy imposes on this organ. When liver damage is significant in pregnancy, it is termed severe MRLP, or HELLP Syndrome, and includes a reduced ability to synthesize blood proteins and platelets. The liver may develop fatty infiltrations and may rupture. These liver conditions are a leading cause of maternal deaths in third world nations and the developed world alike. The well-nourished mother’s liver can work at peak efficiency throughout pregnancy in detoxication, thus protecting herself and her baby from needless infection, severe MRLP/HELLP and other life-threatening disorders.”
".....The outdated idea that the placenta can somehow extract nutrients from the mother, which are not in her circulation is a threat to sound pregnancy nutrition. In a sense, the baby is in competition with all the tissues of the mother’s body, which also require continual nourishment from her bloodstream. If the mother fails to take in all essential nutrients in large enough proportions to sustain the increased demands of pregnancy, her baby will not magically receive what it needs for optimal growth. The baby does not have top priority for nutrients. In fact, there are numerous reliable studies that show the opposite.
Aaron Lechtig and his collaborators have reported that even moderate maternal malnutrition interferes with the process of placental cell proliferation, resulting in abnormally small placentas. When the size of the placenta is reduced, the surface area available for nutrient transfer is correspondingly reduced. Many researchers now conclude that small, thin, underdeveloped placentas are associated with small, thin underdeveloped babies. Very simply, a small placenta cannot transfer as many nutrients to the growing baby as a larger one. So, the baby does not weigh as much as it should at birth, even it if is born at term.
During the last eight weeks of pregnancy, if the mother’s diet is adequate, the baby gains an ounce a day. Brain development occurs at the most rapid rate ever. The baby requires more oxygen and nutrients of all types—including proteins, vitamins, minerals, and calories—than earlier in pregnancy. If the mother is told she has gained enough weight already or that her blood pressure is elevated somewhat and put on a low-calorie, low salt diet at this crucial time, or put on drugs that diminish her appetite by making her sleepy or disoriented, the baby will be denied the nutrients needed to accomplish normal development. A restrictive diet, or drug therapy that results in a reduction in the mother’s nutrient intake, cause the mother’s blood volume to shrink, reducing the amount of blood flowing through the placenta. The baby can suffer intrauterine growth retardation from this reduction of placental blood flow. When less blood passes through the placenta, fewer nutrients pass to the baby during any given period of time."
I plan to conduct my 40th liver and gall bladder cleanse this weekend. Cleaning out these internal organs has been one of the most intense experiences of my life, but I trust that the time invested in these efforts will give me a strong foundation of health for the rest of my life.
Much more information is available at Cure Zone.
I hope all of my readers have a great september, and remember....September is National Preparedness Month!
And if you are new to the Natural Family Blog, I am a strong Romney supporter. Labor Day kicked off the true presidential election season. Take a few minutes to check out Mitt Romneys site. I believe he is our best option for a strong, powerful leader.

WSJ: Happy Blogiversary
Ten Years!!!
"The consumption of blogs is often avid and occasionally obsessive. But more commonly, it is utterly natural, as if turning to them were no stranger than (dare one say this here?) picking one's way through the morning's newspapers. The daily reading of virtually everyone under 40 -- and a fair few folk over that age -- now includes a blog or two, and this reflects as much the quality of today's bloggers as it does a techno-psychological revolution among readers of news and opinion."
I think of myself as a blogging novice, but have to take the time to thank all of you who come in every month. This adventure of the past two years has been one of the most satisfying things I have ever taken on!
Total Traffic for Natural Family Blog as of today: (I started on July 4th, 2005)

For those of you who have come in as Unique Visitors (even writing the number 148,625 people is mind boggling to my sensibilities) and have bookmarked and come back and time or two....thankyou!
As I've said before, I am not a writer.

Unassisted Childbirth and Thieves Essential Oils Blend are the answer for plagues of any kind!

I have been taking a blogging break for the month of May, just too busy, but a headline announcing plague at the denver zoo caught my eye yesterday and I thought I would repost an entry I did in September about the Thieves Blend of Essential Oils. It is below:
Here are a couple of highlights from the past few weeks.
Paul and I were part of the Denver WestWord Article on Unassisted Childbirth last week. Here is the link.
Laura Shanley has a round up of the various Unassisted Childbirth Media Stories from the past few weeks on her blog. Go Here.
And Here are the Links to all of the Freebirth articles: (This outpouring of Media Interest in UC Birth has been extremely gratifying to those of us who have been promoting it for many years!)

I have also participated in two online chats at blogs where Unassisted Childbirth was being discussed. Go Here and Here.
Here is a link to a synopsis of my comments at Salon: Go Here
And my Comments at the NHS Doctors Blog starts with this one: Go Here
I posted quite a few entries on that blog, so keep scrolling down for the rest of my comments.
I tend to let myself go when debating with medical people, they are just so full of themselves.
The chats are filled with lots of rage against those of us who birth alone, but I want to take the chance to testify right here on this entry, that I believe bubonic plague is very much tied to unassisted childbirth.
If the hospitals are overun with patients hacking and dying from plague and/or any other disease (certain forms of staph infection only exist in hospitals!), it is the last place in the world a healthy woman should be giving birth to a healthy child. Preparing for a quiet home birth is the best investment a healthy mom can make to insure the safe arrival of her child, despite what those individuals with MDs after their names have say about it. And they have plenty to say, I've been talking to some of them all week!
Speaking of prepration, I was asked to do the Food Basics booth at our Church Preparedness Fair last saturday! It was really fun and I was thrilled to be a part of it.
A little video:
My dear friend Esther baked twenty loaves of bread for the booth. All but one and a half loaves were chowed down by the people who attended. We teach a bread class for young moms to learn how to make this amazing bread which only costs 25 cents a loaf to make from scratch.
I also recorded this version of Be Still My Soul a few sundays ago:

Here is a link to the plague article at Reuters:
I'll start blogging again when Allison and I get back from New York. Too busy right now with rehearsals for our Faure Requiem performance next week with Colorado Repertory Singers. Michelle is graduating and we have a boatload of activities to attend around her commencement from high school. She has decided to accept the scholarship from her Dads alma mater, so each moment we get to share with her until she leaves home is very precious. I'll start blogging again when and if things slow down.

HuffPo: Leslie Benetts: The Feminine Mistake
Bleech!
"I wrote The Feminine Mistake: Are We Giving Up Too Much? because the typical reporting on the job-versus-family issue was so biased and incomplete. The media gave lots of coverage to women who quit the labor force to become full-time mothers, but they treated this decision as if it were simply a lifestyle choice. They never seemed to mention the risks of economic dependency -- or the myriad benefits of work. As a result, women were being lulled into a dangerous sense of complacency about relinquishing their financial autonomy. Why wasn't anyone telling the truth about how much they were sacrificing -- or what the consequences could be?
When I researched the subject myself, my findings made it all too clear how false that sense of security really is. Over time, most stay-at-home wives are likely to face major hardships as a result of divorce, widowhood, a spouse's unemployment or illness, or any number of other challenges. Women who abandon their careers and become financially dependent on their husbands often look back on that decision as the biggest mistake of their lives -- even women in stable, enduring marriages. I interviewed women all over the country, of every age, socio-economic level and background, but many used the exact same words to ask an angry question: "Why didn't anybody tell me what a mistake this was?""
And man, isn't our society lucky to have such a sage in Leslie Benetts, that she is here to let us know how big of a mistake we are making when we marry and become financially dependent on our men.
A few thoughts....I have not read this womans book, just her piece at Huff Po, so maybe it is wrong to even comment on her piece without her full argument being reviewed.
That being said, the very title of her essay, calling this choice to become dependent on our husbands a MISTAKE, sets the tone of the debate.
I suppose in Ms.Benetts ideal world all women attend college until they are 32, then accept a job from some "empowered" she-male, and then gets artificially inseminated to give birth to one child, you know, just for the experience, and because that time clock is ticking, and the second the baby turns four weeks old, shoves it into the care of someone else while momma stays "independent and financially stable", and thus saves herself the trouble of having to ask that ANGRY and hopeless question...."Why didn't anybody tell me what a mistake this was???"
In Ms. Benetts ideal world womyn have no need to mess with the rather untidy life of the stay at home mother, and no worries about the future. Momma as breadwinner means womyn will never have to bow down to any patriarchal system, and can stay nice and healthy, financially and otherwise, and never ever have any problems, whatsoever. Because everyone knows that the only women who have problems are those who get married young and rely on a man to provide their food, clothing, and shelter.
Sorry Ms. Benett, your whole premise stinks.
I am completely aware of how dependent I am on my husband. I like to think of us an an interdependent team. However, I choose not to wallow in "what iffing" about the future. Should some unforseen situation present itself where I am the sole breadwinner for my family, I trust that as a smart, intelligent woman, I have the capacity to take care of the children who would then be dependent on me for the basics to survive.
I don't have a degree. Outside of stints working as an actor, waitress, medical assistant, maid at a hotel, house cleaner, health club dance instructor, and various network marketing businesses, as well as childbirth teacher, I have never had what others would term an ideal "career".
I have spent the past ten years writing books that few people are interested in reading, promoting natural childbirth in an epidural world, and blogging about natural family living. Endeavors that are not exactly tied to financial freedom.
I suppose if I wanted to make some money at blogging, I could promote sickness on my Blog and then the various sick culture big money machines would come calling, but for now promotion of healthy family life is not a cash cow for our family budget.
Truth be known, without my husbands support I could never have written my E-books, set up my web sites, or even considered blogging. As a computer genius specializing in web connections and fire walls, Paul has been most supportive of my Blogging adventures. Perhaps it would have been better for me to hire a web expert, just so I could say that I was an independent womyn not guilty of making any goofball feminine mistakes like depending on my husbands generousity of spirit while helping me blog.
He installed Movable Type on my site and has helped me in a thousand different ways to be a better online writer. As my in house "free" tech support, he has been the reason I've been able to share my words, pictures, and videos on the web. Perhaps your next book should be titled - "The Male Mistake; hard realities for the husband whose wife spend every spare second blogging."
I am fully aware of the difficulties that COULD happen if my husband were unable to work for some reason. Yet I continue to take my children to the park, spend my time cooking, cleaning, and raising our five children, and call myself most blessed among women for the luxury of this amazing lifestyle where I have the freedom to be queen of my own little castle.
And, I get to choose how I will schedule my free time without worrying about providing food, clothing, and shelter for our brood.
Every time we go out into the sunshine to play, I feel this overwhelming gratefullness in my heart for a man who is willing to work hard every day to provide for me and our children. And I trust and have complete faith that should my husband be called home to heaven, that a kind FATHER In Heaven, the ultimate Patriarch, will be as aware of me as the Lilies of the field, and will help me to know how to feed, shelter, and clothe my family as a single woman.
Don't call my life choice a mistake.
And don't assume that I am some idiot who has no ability to prepare for the future, or understand that my husband being gone will mean major adjustments to our lifestyle. I am well aware of how quickly things could change, but that does not mean I am going to put my children into the care of someone else and go start working on a career.
I am engaged in the most fulfilling career any woman could desire.....writing living epistles as we partner with God in the creation of something eternal and holy....A Family.
As I read this essay I was reminded of the play Pippen, which I performed over forty times during summer stock theatre in 1987. The main character in the play is a young man who wants to find meaning in his life, and so he experiments with a variety of lifestyle choices, running from war to politics to womanizing to family life in search of the ultimate happiness and fulfillment. At the end of this musical, he learns that being committed to a family is what will bring him the most fulfillment, and admits that he is "trapped, but happy".
Here is a clip from the final performance of the cast of 87 in West Yellowstone Montana at the Playmill Theatre. I included our curtain call, as well as the tradition of "street greeting" that we did after the final show of the evening. This particular audience was made up of many friends, family members as well as members of our church congregation in town and former players from previous casts. So alot of hugging was going on as we said our goodbyes.
I am dressed in light blue, and show up here and there in the clip.
Sometime in the future I will share a bunch of clips from this play, it is a profound and wonderful commentary about what brings true happiness and fulfillment in life.

Michelle Malkin: threats in the Blogosphere
Michelle Has a message for the technoblogging elites: Go Here (Strong Language alert)
These past ten months I have had to seriously think about this topic of threats and being harmed by what I say. I have also had to question how much of our life I put on this blog, and how much of my time will be devoted to blogging endeavors.
I decided long ago that I would not take counsel from my fears, in any sphere of my life. And have attempted to walk the talk each day fearless of what life might send my way in terms of being attacked for my lifestyle, political views, and activism.
Malkin has some good insights, and I completely agree with her that we have to be fearless.
She Said:
"My response to this and other endless slurs and threats--most empty, some serious--has been two-fold:
1) Report the serious threats to law enforcement.
2) Keep blogging.
As I have said before: "There is a time to be tolerant and there is a time to draw lines. If you don't draw those lines, bullies will be emboldened."
That is my unsolicited advice to those now cowering in the face of anonymous commenters and assorted nutballs who will never go away.
Keep blogging. Don't cut and run."
I agree with her in theory, but after you have been attacked, sometimes it is important to just take a break, simply because you are ill and need to physically heal, and also need some space to recharge your freedom loving batteries. It might also be important to take stock of your life and decide if this is the cause that you are willing to put it all on the line for. Knowing deep in your heart that at any time and in any place you could be murdered or maimed for your political views.
Last week before the Gathering of Eagles event, I had some nightmares. My subconcious was dealing with my fears in a very real way during my dreams, and I felt some panic and fear. I also wondered if this was going to be a solo demonstration, and if I would be physically attacked by those on the other side. I figured even if I was hit I would probably live and would only die if I was shot by someone up on the hill. No Fear, No Fear....
On the thursday before the rally my visiting teachers came to visit, and I shared with them some of what I was planning to do with the Gathering of Eagles, and mentioned that I was having nightmares etc and then asked if they would pray for me. I joked that I was not afraid of getting hurt, just as long as I did not get shot. Ben was playing with the two little daughters of my friend and I did not realize that he was listening to our conversation. When I walked in the door after the anti war rally the first thing he said to me in a tone of excited exclamation was "You did not get shot!". I wondered then how much my little guy had worried for his mom.
When Dale Lanham and I walked in the door after the bake sale, Paul jokingly said "you didn't get shot! or arrested!!" He was only half joking. He had been really concerned that if we got too in your face with the Daily Camera people, they might call the police.

Here is a picture of me shortly after some toxic chemical was thrown in my face. I have struggled with my health for months since this attack. I reported it to the police, but they did not believe my story, and could not comprehend why someone would want to kill a blogging mother. I have released myself from the need to get justice around this attack, but it did change my life and my outlook on Freedom.
When one is attacked for political reasons, it can be truly devastating. You may feel guilt for putting your children in an unsafe situation, and you might feel damaged emotionally, because the bottom line is that it just feels terrible to be hurt for your beliefs.
That being said, after the attack, a freedom of expression and life comes into ones heart. At least for me, life after attack has felt liberating. I have absolutely no fear of death. I walked to deaths door, knocked on it, I think Jesus even opened the door, told me it was not my time, and I walked back into life completely changed. I also had a near death experience after the birth of my fourth child, and while similar elements were involved in terms of a change in perspective, life after the attack was the most liberating for me as a blogger.
It recharged my liberty loving batteries. It filled me with a purpose and a focus that has never waned. I feel absolutely fearless. I should qualify that by saying that in my concious moments I feel fearless, in my subconcious some fear has shown up in my dreams, as my mind has tried to reconcile things.
Life after attack has motivated me to make some changes in our day to day life. I bought the puppy I had been promising my children. I enjoy sunsets, sunrises, and flowers much more, and if I feel like dancing or singing, I do it.
I cut people out of my life who were making me ill just being in contact with them, and I invited others into my life who brought joy to my heart.
I joined a choir and I am enjoying performance again.
I have absolute faith and confidence that if my life is in the balance again, because of another attack, that Heavenly Father will preserve my life and protect me from evil. And I trust that if it is my time to die, that I will be welcomed home safely into the arms of my Savior.
It sounds like the blogger Michelle wrote about has decided that she cannot live with those fears of being attacked. I wish I had the ability to communicate to her that when you are attacked for your heart felt views, it can be the life changing, empowerment moment that gives you the courage to live one more day, year, lifetime, to its fullest.
I know my words sometimes convey this grandiose, majestic, over the top view of life, politics, freedom, and slavery. But it is difficult for me to harness my words, pull them back into a restrained elitist moderated voice. I have decided that the granduer of this cause of freedom is no delusion. I spend quality time talking to the Master of the Universe every day. I know he is listening. Some days, during quiet moments of prayer, in conversation with my Father in Heaven, the very specific guidance I have felt from his Holy Spirit showing me in word pictures what to write, what to say, what to do, has let me know in a very real and specific way that He is interested in what I am doing with this blog.
When one feels that the work they are doing every day is blessed by Heaven, that God himself takes an interest in what is said, what is written, and what is done, then yeah, one can understand why satanic forces, people, and ideas would have a major problem with one freedom loving momma in Colorado.
And, yes, Michelle Malkin is profoundly right that we bloggers cannot allow threats, real or imagined to compel us to stop. Peace through strength is my mantra. Some very evil forces in our world need to be confronted again and again and again, boldly, in full view of the public, and fearlessly by those who love freedom.
If we don't do it, who will?

PBS Frontline: News War
I watched the documentary News War on PBS the other night. I know, I know, I vowed never to watch them again, but I had heard about this show on the Conservative Blogs and I wanted to watch what they were saying about the internet and blogging in particular.
I decided to comment on a clip from John Carroll (Click here for the whole interview), and was amazed that not only did he completely miss the point of Blogging and the self correcting mechanisms that are in place, but he was so absolutely depressed, contemplating the loss of his gatekeeper roll, and completely at a loss to know what to think and what to do.
THE NEWS:
His big question...
Who is going to pay for it?
With video phones at every event in the world (Including Sadaams Hanging), I think we can safely say that citizen journalists have got things covered in terms of men and women on the "street". As for the ability of the average dolt to figure out what those You Tube videos mean, for John C, he figures that unless some socialist with a journalism degree from Harvard is analyzing and spoon feeding the context of that news to us plebians who make up the great unwashed masses of America and the world, we just don't have the brains to figure it out for ourselves.
He really does not understand the power of the web, or the fact that newspapers were not serving the Capitalist and Conservative half of the population in America for decades. The fact that the publishing world collectively promotes Marxism is indisputable. Except for a few journals, magazines, a little big of conservative press, and the Conservative Chronicle, for decades the socialists in our society ruled the day.
In the video I talk about Cleon Skousens book The Naked Communist. Here is a link to the complete list, of which I outlined just a few points related to the press and student activism.
I have an idea for John and his reporter friends, editors, and editorialists. As print media winds down, we the people are still going to have a need for newspapers.
You know... to line our bird cages, help train our puppies, and to use to start fires when camping. Because of this great need, I would like to suggest that John start a new American Paper.
He could call it something catchy...like Pravda, and all the die hards in the journalism world who are in deep shock and mourning that the newspapers are dying, could write for it, and they could make it a non-profit, and sell it to people who need that paper to use as a pooper scooper for their dogs.
Happy Trails!

Happy New Year and Happy Fifth Anniversary to the Blogosphere
"I PROPOSE A NAME for the intellectual cyberspace we bloggers occupy: the Blogosphere. Simple enough; the root word is logos, from the Greek meaning, variously: In pre-Socratic philosophy, the principle governing the cosmos, the source of this principle, or human reasoning about the cosmos; Among the Sophists, the topics of rational argument or the arguments themselves."
Thanks Bill!

Blogging Wal Mart
I just read this post on Pajamas Media...
"Roger Simon details the saga of the Edelman PR firm, which has admitted to creating “flogs”—fake weblogs, that is—to promote companies like Walmart."
After reading a couple of the links, articles, and comments from that post I thought it might be good to explain why I plug Wal Mart every chance I get here on my own blog.
First and foremost, I am trying to send a message to the PC police in our society that I will not be bullied into shopping or not shopping at a certain store based on "Progressive" values.
Funny Story:
I use a cleaning lady every once in a while when my asthma is acting up. She is a Boulderite, really nice gal, but after being here to help with dusting a time or two it came out when I was watching Fox News one day to check on things in Iraq, (my brother was serving in Iraq that year and I watched the news constantly to hear what was up), that I was a rabid conservative and she was a liberal, or Progressive, as she refers to herself. She has all the talking points memorized for her various arguments and we have had some fun debates and conversations.
I flat out told her that if she was in my house and I was paying her money that she was absolutely not allowed to bash President Bush in my home, but that I supported her right to bash him all she wanted out of my house.
She has been pretty good about that, but one day it was so cute when she confessed to me, all guilty and sheepish, that she shopped at Wal Mart every once in a while. I just about lost it laughing when she made her Confession. I promised that I was not going to judge her for her choice of shopping location, and that I shopped at Wal Mart at least once a week and sometimes twice a week. She looked me in the eye, and then said "all that stuff is just so dang cheap!".
I agree.
If I had the cash, I would shop for all of our families groceries at Vitamin Cottage and purchase everything Organic. Or I would go to Boulder to shop at Whole Foods, or Wild Oats, or even our local Grocery store, King Soopers, where most organic foods can be purchased for reasonable prices.
But we have a large family, and depending on the week, even with me cooking a huge portion of our daily fare from scratch, I still go to wal mart once a week to purchase the foods to make my kids lunches, and to get certain types of cheeses, and I love their salsa. I buy bread products like tortillas, corn chips, and hoagie buns. Or I go to Sam's Club to bulk purchase toilet paper, or ziploc bags, or garbage bags, or olive oil, or honey, or peanut butter.
Fact is, feeding a family is expensive. And Wal Mart saves us a boatload of cash.
I can go fill up a cart with groceries, get a coloring book for Ben, a pair of jeans for Andy and some socks for Shelly and come out of the store having laid out only $200 bucks.
It makes my husband happy every time I come home from shopping and show him the Wal Mart receipts, instead of showing up with three or four bags from the health food store, and trying to hide the receipt because I just spent another three hundred dollars and did not have much to show for it.
It is a balancing act, trying to budget, purchase what I feel is the best food for my family, yet not go overboard with the organic thing.
Sometimes I just can't afford to purchase everything organic, and it is sometimes difficult to find the cash to even get the extras that make our food storage of beans and grains more fun to eat.
Wal Mart has never paid me a dime for the mentions on my Blog. I don't accept advertisers right now, and I won't be bullied into shopping at some PC store like Target because of someone else's values. (I do shop at Target occasionally if it is where I want to shop - not knocking them) but I won't be shamed into shopping at any store.
Full and true confessions, I get a peverse delight doing anything that liberals abhore, which is why I can't wait to purchase our first SUV and use it to drive to Wal Mart, stopping for fries at MacDonalds and dressing my kids in their Nike Shoes.
I believe in Free Market Capitalism.
I say let the market rule.
If Wal Mart has been guilty of bad choices regarding blogosphere useage, they will learn...fast.
The internet has a way of quickly sifting out the fakers....
And if at any time I change my values regarding internet advertising on my Blog, my readers will be the first to know.
And, I will NEVER let an advertiser tell me what I can and cannot say on my blog.
Let Freedom RING!

Writing

I continue to get emails from people who would like to "edit" me. One lady said she would be very embarrassed to be me because if she wrote as badly as I do, she would not dream of putting her work on the internet, as it would just be so presumptuous. Another dissed me as being incongruent in my personal life and promoting freedom for others, when I behave as a dictator in family life. I'm not quite sure what she meant, but all I could gather is that my writing made her angry.
Some emails are from good friends just sending along a friendly FYI - hey did you know you mispelled this word? Or, what do you know, you got this link wrong....or perhaps you missed this, and would prefer to say it another way?
I don't really mind those types of emails, I know these people love me and just want me to put my best foot forward.
Others send along more snarky toned emails letting me know that I used bad grammer, or hacked up an idea with bad wording etc...
What I would like to explain and have understood by you my readers are the conditions under which I write. Not to excuse myself for a lack of excellence in writing. More to let you know that I am doing my best, and for now, that has to be enough.
I generally write under the most intense of conditions. Children running through my home, dog barking, phone ringing. Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines...no, not for blogging, but to keep my life working well. Have to get Shelly to work by noon, pick up Allison by four, and Jeff to the chiropractor at five. Supper on the table at 5:30 so the kids can be out the door by 6:00.
Get to bed early, so I can wake up early...but never seem to fall asleep before eleven because somebody in the house needs me. I go all day long....laundry, dishes, cooking, shopping, disciplining, teaching, encouraging, and helping.
I know other writers are able to do all this and more and still take the time to do a grammatical check or spell check. I don't. I figure if I spell it natural or naturale, you still get the meaning of what I am trying to say.
I am not a writer. I don't have an editor, proofreader, assistant, or secretary. I don't get a check every two weeks, and I don't have any advertisers on my sites. Over the years I have enjoyed writing letters to the editor on a variety of topics, and I wrote my books because I had something to say, and now I blog because I like to share the good things in my life, hopefully to help someone have an easier time as a mother, but also because I love to share what I have learned from 18 years of mothering.

As I said, I am not a writer, I am simply a mother who happens to write. So, as I make excuses for my style of writing which tends to be somewhat stream of conciousness and not very well put together, just know....the dog is barking, Ben is asking for a peanut butter sandwich, a friend just called inviting me to go to the park, Jeff is teasing somebody, the girls are arguing with me about chores, and Andy just ate the last cookie (piece of bread, apple, chip, cracker...that kid is always hungry) and everyone is mad at him.

Andy on the rocks at Table Mesa Trail in Boulder
This is my day to day life. I am a blogger, and I know my writing would never be copy for a major newspaper, but for now, this is what I have to offer.
