Sect Children should be returned to parents
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - In a crushing blow to the state's massive seizure of children from a polygamist sect's ranch, the Texas Supreme Court ruled Thursday that child welfare officials overstepped their authority and the children should go back to their parents.
The high court affirmed a decision by an appellate court last week, saying Child Protective Services failed to show an immediate danger to the more than 400 children swept up from the Yearning For Zion Ranch nearly two months ago.
"On the record before us, removal of the children was not warranted," the justices said in their ruling issued in Austin.
The high court let stand the appellate court's order that Texas District Judge Barbara Walther return the children from foster care to their parents. It's not clear how soon that may happen, but the appellate court ordered her to do it within a reasonable time period.
The ruling shatters one of the largest child-custody cases in U.S. history. State officials said the removals were necessary to end a cycle of sexual abuse at the ranch in which teenage girls were forced to marry and have sex with older men, but parents denied any abuse and said they were being persecuted for their religious beliefs.
Every child at the ranch in the west Texas town of Eldorado was removed; half were 5 or younger.
"The moms are clearly very happy at the news that it looks like they're going to get their kids a lot sooner than expected," said Cynthia Martinez, a spokeswoman for legal aid attorneys representing 38 mothers who filed the complaint that prompted the ruling. "It's definitely an emotional day."
The case before the court technically only applies to the 124 children of those mothers, but it significantly affects nearly all the children since they were removed under identical circumstances.
The Third Court of Appeals in Austin ruled last week that the state failed to show that any more than five of the teenage girls were being sexually abused, and had offered no evidence of sexual or physical abuse against the other children.
The ranch is run by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which teaches that polygamy brings glorification in heaven. It is a breakaway sect of the Mormon church, which renounced polygamy more than a century ago.
Roughly 430 children from the ranch are in foster care after two births, numerous reclassifications of adult women initially held as minors and a handful of agreements allowing parents to keep custody while the Supreme Court considered the case.
Texas officials claimed at one point that there were 31 teenage girls at the ranch who were pregnant or had been pregnant, but later conceded that about half of those mothers, if not more, were adults. One was 27.
Under Texas law, children can be taken from their parents if there's a danger to their physical safety, an urgent need for protection and if officials made a reasonable effort to keep the children in their homes. The high court agreed with the appellate court that the seizures fell short of that standard.
CPS lawyers had argued that parents could remove their children from state jurisdiction if they regain custody, that DNA tests needed to confirm parentage are still pending and that the lower-court judge had discretion in the case.
The justices said child welfare officials can take numerous actions to protect children short of separating them from their parents and placing them in foster care, and that Walther may still put restrictions on the children and parents to address concerns that they may flee once reunited.
This is a great day for American Families. May the CPS Workers burn in hell for the pain they have put these families through. And may abuses of this kind never happen again in the US of A.

Premature babies 'need cuddles'
Premature babies 'need cuddles'
"Professor Linda Franck, from the Institute of Child Health in London, said that parents were often not encouraged to have skin to skin contact with their premature babies in UK neonatal units, despite growing evidence that it could help.
She said: "Neonatal units can be very intimidating places, and parents often do not know the best way to get involved.
"Parents want to do the right thing, but the message is difficult to get out there.
"This study suggests that, even for the very youngest premature babies, skin to skin contact can reduce the stress response."
She is currently carrying out a pilot study in four London units which is using a variety of methods, including skin to skin contact, to encourage parents to become more involved with the care of their newborn children."
And Linda, when you are finished with that particular study, why don't you read the research on the Brewer Diet which can prevent prematurity in the first place??? Then take the time and energy to encourage mothers to eat this diet.

LDS Newsroom: How Mormons deal with Fame
This is an interesting article on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints web site.

David Archuleta returned to his home state of Utah last weekend.
© 2008, Ravell Call, Deseret News
"SALT LAKE CITY 15 May 2008 Seventeen-year-old Utah Mormon David Archuleta, one of two finalists in the singing contest American Idol, is experiencing what many other Latter-day Saint celebrities have faced before him. The Osmonds, golfing great Johnny Miller, singer Gladys Knight, Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings, snowboarder Torah Bright, author Stephenie Meyer and other high-profile Mormons have all had to deal with questions about their faith and their fame. How do they reconcile the two?"
"Novelist Stephenie Meyer, whom London’s The Times newspaper called “a teetotal Mormon mother of three”, told that publication that her style, informed by her faith, resonates with a lot of readers. “I know a lot of kids who relate to my books because they don’t drink and they are not sexually active,” she said. “There are a ton of them but they don’t get a lot of representation in literature or television or movies.”
One notion some reporters bring to their interviews with Mormon celebrities is that all Latter-day Saints are the same: squeaky clean and somehow unsuited to fame. The reality is, however, that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are all different, and those rising to prominence in their respective fields will handle the spotlight in their own ways. Some choose to push their beliefs aside, to varying degrees, as they make their way in fast-paced, high-profile industries such as movies, music and professional sports. Many, though, find ways to stay grounded and true to their faith while seeking to excel in their chosen pursuits.
Singer Donny Osmond begins the text of his official Web site with these words: “As I've traveled all over the world, the fact that I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage over all these years while living in the world of show business.”
Osmond continues: “Others want to know how we've dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times. How do we maintain a balance between work and family life? Well, you know it's not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions.”
Some Mormons, seeing a fellow member of their church reach celebrity status, are often excited to see ”one of their own” counter a perception that Mormons are different or even a little strange. This kind of validation does more than just place a Mormon (and by association, Mormonism) in the mainstream: the success and popular acceptance of another Latter-day Saint somehow compensates for what some see as generations of misunderstanding.
Today’s Salt Lake Tribune quotes Mormon Julianne Hough, the Dancing With the Stars winner and country music artist, as she advises Archuleta regarding his future: “Keep your family first. Those are the people you have to rely on. Always be who you are, and don't be afraid to say ‘No.’”
Helio Castroneves Indy 500 dances the Cha Cha with Julianne Hough
Julianne Hough is already known to millions of fans as the two-time professional dance champion on ABC-TV's top-rated Dancing with the Stars (DWTS). The show, which pairs professional dancers with music, sports, film and television celebrities, has become a cultural phenomenon and Julianne its top star.
Julianne's debut album is a compelling collection of songs about the joys and challenges of everyday life delivered by an evocative young voice. "That Song In My Head" is the first single from the album and available immediately to download from the Amazon MP3 store.

Debbie Lee Memorial Day Message

Hello, my name is Debbie Lee, and my son, Marc Alan Lee was the first Navy Seal killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom, so you can imagine that days like today - Memorial Day - are tough days for me. I miss Marc so deeply, yet I am so proud of my Hero, my Mighty Warrior! He loved his country and was so proud to serve in the military and to dutifully undertake the missions he served on - he understood how important it is for America to win the war on terror.
Memorial Day is not a once-a-year holiday for me - everyday is Memorial Day for me as I remember the little boy who grew into a Hero. I remember his smile, his love, his laughter, his hugs, but most of all his sacrifice. As a nation we have declared this as a day to remember those who have given their lives serving their country in the military. We can never fully repay their sacrifice.
I'm not sure if you've heard the news reports or not, but a contingent of liberal, spineless, gutless politicians in Congress have decided to hold up funding for our troops - and are using them as pawns in their political playground to force our military to surrender to the terrorists.
I spent last Christmas with our troops in Iraq, and I can't even put into words just how amazing these young men and women are. It's such a dishonor and disservice to our honorable men and women in uniform to be thousands of miles away from family, friends and their homes, while here on the home front anti-military radicals and anti-war politicians are trying to undermine their missions.
My son gave up his voice in service to his nation -- but I can be his voice, and work to make sure that those still serving on the frontlines of Iraq and Afghanistan have the support of Americans back home. Let's show our troops that they are unconditionally supported by the American people - and let them know not to be distracted or depressed by the shameless acts of some Members of Congress.
Move America Forward, the nation's largest pro-troop organization, has put together an effort to send the largest number of care packages to U.S. troops in history. Between now and the 4th of July we are asking Americans to sponsor care packages that we will send to our heroic military men and women who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. We need you to join us by sponsoring care packages and helping us reach this historic goal.
** SPONSOR A CARE PACKAGE - CLICK HERE **
My son gave up his life for this country because he knew that the series of attacks against Americans by Islamic jihadists/terrorists had to be stopped. Our country could no longer look the other way and pretend that there wasn't an enemy that was determined to destroy our nation. So Marc volunteered to serve his nation, as an elite Navy Seal, and he and so many others joined our military knowing that they might have to sacrifice their own lives for the freedoms of our nation, for you, for me.
The United States of America is a great nation thanks in large part to all those in uniform who have shed blood and given their lives to ensure that this remains the shining city on a hill that President Ronald Reagan once spoke of -- a land of freedom, of liberty, of decency, of opportunity.
Let's use this day to show our military men and women currently serving overseas how much we appreciate them. Please, join me in this wonderful effort to send the largest shipment of care packages in history to our troops.
** SPONSOR A CARE PACKAGE - CLICK HERE **
Thank you for taking the time to read my note. I wish you and your family a blessed Memorial Day, and I thank all of you who have supported Move America Forward's pro-troop activities to date, and those to come in the future.
- Debbie Lee
Gold Star Mom, Move America Forward
P.S. Also, be sure to mark your calendars for June 26th! On that day we're going to have a huge special broadcast hosted by Melanie Morgan & Michelle Malkin and featuring radio giants Sean Hannity & Mark Levin and all sorts of celebrities - plus reports from our troops on the frontlines. It's called "From the Frontlines" and it will mark a sort of Grand Finale push to our historic care package drive. We'll tell you more about this incredible effort in the days to come, I just had to give you a little sneak peak as to what was in the works!

Sunday School Lesson #17: We thank thee oh God for a Prophet

Jenny Hatch
Here is the text to my sunday school lesson for tomorow.
We Thank thee oh God for a Prophet

Note to the teacher
The Lord in his love and wisdom has called prophets to guide us and help us meet the challenges of our time. It is a blessing to know that the counsel we receive from the prophet is the same as if it came directly from the Lord. Emphasize to class members the importance of having a living prophet today. We sustain all the members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, but this lesson focuses on the President of the Church, the Lord’s spokesman on the earth.
Messages Come from the Lord through the Prophet
Story and discussion
Read or tell the following story:
Many years ago, before there was a temple on the island of Tahiti, 30 Tahitian members of the Church had planned for a long time to make a trip to the Hawaii Temple. They had worked hard to repair a boat and to save the money necessary for their journey. They had also requested and received permission for the journey from their government and from President David O. McKay, who was President of the Church at that time.
Shortly before the voyage was to begin, the Church members who would be making the trip were asked to gather at the mission home for a meeting. There they were informed that a special message had arrived that day from President McKay. He was asking them not to make the trip to Hawaii.
• How would you feel if you had made all these preparations and then you were counseled not to go?
• Would your feelings be different knowing that the prophet of God had asked you to stop the voyage? Why or why not?
Share the conclusion of the story:
The Church members did not understand why they could not make the trip, but they had testimonies that President McKay was a prophet, so they followed his counsel.
A few days later the skipper of the boat the Saints had planned to use received a call from the harbor where the boat was kept. He was told to come quickly because his boat was sinking. When he examined his boat, he found that the repairmen who had been hired earlier had painted over some rotten wood and rusty pipe, which had then broken, causing the boat to sink. If the Church members had begun the trip, the boat would have sunk while they were on their way to Hawaii.
The Church members had accepted the prophet’s counsel without knowing why it was given, but now they understood why they had been advised not to make the journey. They were thankful that they had followed the prophet’s counsel. (See R. Lanier and JoAnn M. Britsch, “A Prophet’s Warning,” New Era, Mar. 1976, 12–14.)
Activity
Display a picture of the current President of the Church.
Hand out copies of the Ensign (or the International Magazines) containing recent conference addresses. You may separate class members into small groups and give a copy to each group, or you may give a copy to each class member. Have class members find talks by the current President of the Church and look for specific things he has counseled us to do.
• What counsel has the Lord recently given us through the prophet?
List class members’ responses on the chalkboard. Testify that just as the people in the story were protected because they followed President David O. McKay, we will be blessed when we follow the counsel of the prophet.
We Can Know That the Prophet Represents God
Story and discussion
• Why is it important to have a testimony that the Lord speaks through the prophet?
Have someone read the following story told by Elder Boyd K. Packer:
“I left the office one Friday afternoon … [and] waited for the elevator to come down from the fifth floor.
“As the elevator doors quietly opened, there stood President Joseph Fielding Smith. There was a moment of surprise in seeing him, since his office is on a lower floor.
“As I saw him framed in the doorway, there fell upon me a powerful witness—there stands the prophet of God. That sweet voice of Spirit … affirmed to me that this was the prophet of God.
“I need not try to define that experience to Latter-day Saints. That kind of witness is characteristic of this church. It is not something reserved to those in high office. It is a witness, not only available but vital, to every member” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1971, 122–23; or Ensign, June 1971, 87).
• How did Elder Packer know that President Smith was the prophet of God?
Emphasize that Elder Packer’s testimony was confirmed by the Holy Ghost, not by the sight of President Smith. As appropriate, tell class members about how you have received the witness of the Holy Ghost that the President of the Church is God’s prophet. Invite class members to tell how they gained a testimony of the prophet.
Chalkboard discussion
• What can we do to receive a witness from the Holy Ghost that the President of the Church is a prophet of God?
List class members’ responses on the chalkboard. Some possible responses include praying, fasting, reading the prophet’s messages, watching or listening to general conference, and following the prophet’s counsel.
The Scriptures Teach Us to Follow the Prophet
Scripture activity
Give each class member a pen or pencil and a copy of the crossword puzzle. (If you did not make copies of the puzzle, draw it on the chalkboard or on a poster, read the questions aloud, and have class members work together to complete the puzzle.) Encourage class members to mark the scripture passages as they read them. Allow enough time for everyone to complete the puzzle. After the class members have finished, read and discuss each completed statement. Below are the completed statements:
Across
1. God reveals his secrets to his servants the prophets. (See Amos 3:7.)
6. The prophet holds the keys of the kingdom of heaven. (See Matthew 16:19.)
7. Those who do not heed the words of the prophets will be cut off. (See D&C 1:14.)
9. We should receive the counsel of the prophet with all patience and faith. (See D&C 21:4–5.)
Down
2. The prophet speaks as prompted by the Holy Ghost. (See D&C 68:3.)
3. We sustain the President of the Church as a prophet, seer, and revelator. A seer knows about the past and about things to come. (See Mosiah 8:17.)
4. The Lord’s voice and the voice of the prophet to the Church are the same. (See D&C 1:38.)
5. The organization of the Church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Jesus Christ as the chief cornerstone. (See Ephesians 2:19–20.)
8. The laws of the kingdom (the Church) are given by prophets. (See D&C 58:18.)
“We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet”
Hymn
Explain that William Fowler, a British convert baptized in 1849, was so moved by the thought of a prophet of God living among the people that he wrote the words to the hymn “We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet” (Hymns,no. 19).
Distribute hymnbooks and have class members sing or read the words to this hymn.
• Why are you thankful to be led by a prophet?
Testimony
Share with class members your testimony of the current President of the Church. Encourage them to follow his counsel.

Hillary Clinton: "Why Would I Drop Out Before Barack Obama Is Assassinated?"
"In an interview with the editorial board of the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader today, Hillary Clinton brought up Bobby Kennedy's June, 1968 assassination as an argument against her dropping out of the Democratic primary.
"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out. She has a point: June is a great month for political assassinations.
Why drop out of the race before all the assassins have had their say?
After all, we know Barack Obama has received multiple death threats -- because he is black, of course, and because some of our fellow citizens think he's a secret Muslim terrorist who is going to take the oath of office on the Koran and make us all pray to Mecca five times a day with that screechy music coming over the loudspeakers and then he'll fly Air Force One into the White House.
And the truth is, Obama has consistently failed to win over those voters who want to see him murdered."
Speak it David!!!
The Clintons have a history of crying crocodile tears at the funerals of the political people they snuff out. Would somebody just lock those two up, instead of letting them have one more second on the public airwaves as a legitimate part of the political dialog in our country?

Texas seizure of polygamist-sect kids thrown out
Texas had no right to take polygamist sect kids: court
"The ruling in one of the largest custody cases in U.S. history, hammered the state for removing the children and directed state District Judge Barbara Walther to vacate the order. Technically, it applied only to the children of 38 mothers named in the appeal, but the ruling was broad enough to cover nearly every child swept up in the April raid.
The children were taken into custody more than six weeks ago after someone called a hot line claiming to be a pregnant, abused teenage wife. The girl has not been found and authorities are investigating whether the calls were a hoax.
Child welfare officials argued that five girls at the ranch had become pregnant at 15 and 16 and that the sect pushed underage girls into marriage and sex with older men and groomed boys to enter into such unions when they grew up.
But the appeals court said the state acted too hastily in sweeping up all the children and taking them away on the broad beliefs of the renegade Mormon sect.
"Even if one views the FLDS belief system as creating a danger of sexual abuse by grooming boys to be perpetrators of sexual abuse and raising girls to be victims of sexual abuse ... there is no evidence that this danger is 'immediate' or 'urgent,'" the court said."
I hope these children are reunited with their parents soon.

Colorado Tornado
Ben and I were at the park with his playgroup when this storm hit, we had hail and pouring rain, the sky went dark and all of us ran for the pavillion in the park. The tornado was about twenty miles from our location, so we did not see it or even know that it was close, all we saw was the hail. It is 1:30PM right now and the sun is out with the birds chirping.

Idol Finale Tonight! Go Davids Go!
UPDATE
I think David A. pulled it off last night. We'll see.

THE details of this week's "American Idol" David vs. David showdown are finally beginning to emerge.
This season's winner will be crowned tomorrow night, and it will either be 16-year-old David Archuleta or 25-year-old David Cook.
The pair will be judged on three songs, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said yesterday during a call in to "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest's daily radio show.
The first song will be picked by music industry legend Clive Davis - who until last month was the chairman of Sony BMG, the company that owns J Records, which gives each "Idol" winner a record contract.
I love them both, don't really care who wins!

Real Clear Politics:IRAQ WRAPUP 1-Al Qaeda crackdown yields 100 "critical" militants
Top Sadaam General Arrested in Mosul.
BAGHDAD, May 19 (Reuters) - Iraqi and U.S. forces have arrested about 100 suspects thought to be crucial to the operations of militant groups in al Qaeda's last haven of north Iraq, the commander of U.S. forces in the area said on Monday.
The Iraqi military launched an offensive against al Qaeda in the northern city of Mosul and surrounding Nineveh province on May 10. It has been largely Iraqi-led, with U.S. forces playing a support role.
Gunmen from Sunni Islamist al Qaeda regrouped in Nineveh after being pushed out of other parts of Iraq. The U.S. military says Mosul is its last major urban stronghold, from where its fighters still stage suicide bomb attacks and asassinations.
"They have arrested upward of about 1,250 individuals, of which about 100 are critical targets," Major-General MarkHertling told Reuters in a telephone interview from Mosul.
"In the last several weeks, we have either captured or killed several AQI (al Qaeda in Iraq) emirs (commanders), some suicide cell leaders, some military cell leaders," he said, adding that some were from other groups with loose links to alQaeda.
"Some of them are very senior. I'm talking about militaryemirs, battalion level commanders in al Qaeda," he said.
Mohammed al-Askari, spokesman for Iraq's Defence Ministry, said Iraqi forces had captured one of the Mosul leaders of al Qaeda on Sunday.
Abdul Khaleq al-Sabawi, head of al Qaeda's military organisation in Mosul, was arrested near Tikrit, half-way between Mosul and Baghdad, in Salahuddin province and taken back to Mosul, he said.
Many of the others arrested in the raids were criminals, Hertling said, but the operation had also yielded some al Qaeda fighters the government had not previously known about. Two hundred on a list of al Qaeda targets were still at large.
"We are getting some intelligence that they have been very disrupted," Hertling said. "We've significantly reduced the number of attacks in the city."
The number of attacks attributed by the U.S. military and Iraqi officials to al Qaeda has fallen notably in recent weeks.
U.S. officials blame al Qaeda for most big bombings in Iraq, including an attack on a Shi'ite shrine in Samarra in February 2006 that set off a wave of sectarian killings that nearly tipped Iraq into all-out civil war.
An influx of U.S. troops last year and a decision by Sunni Arab tribes to turn against al Qaeda enabled U.S. and Iraqi forces to push the militants out of Baghdad and the western province of Anbar, their former strongholds.
The U.S. military says al Qaeda in Iraq is largely foreign-led but that its foot soldiers are mainly Iraqis.

The Jihadists Admit Defeat in Iraq
"A prolific jihadist sympathizer has posted an ‘explosive’ study on one of the main jihadist websites in which he laments the dire situation that the mujaheddin find themselves in Iraq by citing the steep drop in the number of insurgent operations conducted by the various jihadist groups, most notably Al-Qaeda’s 94 percent decline in operational ability over the last 12 months when only a year and half ago Al-Qaeda accounted for 60 percent of all jihadist activity!
The author, writing under the pseudonym ‘Dir’a limen wehhed’ [‘A Shield for the Monotheist’], posted his ‘Brief Study on the Consequences of the Division [Among] the [Jihadist] Groups on the Cause of Jihad in Iraq’ on May 12 and it is being displayed by the administration of the Al-Ekhlaas website—one of Al-Qaeda’s chief media outlets—among its more prominent recent posts. He's considered one of Al-Ekhlaas's "esteemed" writers.
The author tallies up and compares the numbers of operations claimed by each insurgent group under four categories: a year and half ago (November 2006), a year ago (May 2007), six months ago (November 2007) and now (May 2008). He demonstrated that while Al-Qaeda’s Islamic State of Iraq could claim 334 operations in Nov. 06 and 292 in May 07, their violent output dropped to 25 in Nov. 07 and 16 so far in May 08. Keep in mind that these assessments are based on Al-Qaeda's own numbers.

CODE PINK SUFFERS PR MISFIRE
AS MEDIA MOCKS THEIR
COVEN OF WITCHES
When Move America Forward learned that the media would be covering Code Pink's day of witches, crones and sirens to protest the Marine Recruiting Center in Berkeley, CA we decided to mobilize our staff and some supporters to stage a counter demonstration.
We figured this was a perfect opportunity to help Code Pink make a fool of themselves, and that is exactly what happened.
We stood there with our American Flags, and brooms (so that Code Pink witches could jump on them and fly away to a country more to their liking... perhaps Iran or Syria or the like). We sang patriotic songs, and most importantly we talked to reporters to give them the other side of the story.
This video covers yet another Code Pink protest at the Marine Corps Recruiting Office in Berkeley, this time dressed up as "witches and crones," on May 9, 2008. It is part of a larger report on the protest at http://www.zombietime.com/zomblog/?p=20
Note: Invoking a little fun from the Wizard of Oz, one of our signs said "Dorothy would drop her house on Code Pink witches!"

TOP AL QAEDA IN IRAQ LEADER
IS ARRESTED IN MOSUL!

This story is good news for those who support the U.S.-led Coalition in the war on terror, and it's also tricky for opponents of our troops' missions (including the news media).
>>> READ THE NEWS STORY - HERE
A senior Al Qaeda in Iraq leader has been arrested in Mosul, where Iraqi Security Forces have been cracking down on Al Qaeda forces who have been driven out of almost all other portions of the country. Here's the best part - he was a general under Saddam Hussein before joining Al Qaeda in Iraq.
But the tricky part for the media and anti-war activists is that if we captured a senior Al Qaeda in Iraq operative in Iraq, then that means we are fighting Al Qaeda in Iraq, despite what the media and some anti-war leaders have tried to convince you wasn't happening.
Turns out they've been caught lying - yet again!

HOBART -- Jimmy Gerodemos puts in 14-hour days running his Northwest Indiana restaurants.
But the Munster resident, whose son, Louie, is autistic, says the restaurant business, as hard as it is, is nothing compared to dealing with autism.
Gerodemos and his wife, Violet, believe their son's illness is the result of immunizations.
"He was a fine, normal kid when he was 18 months old, and the day after he got his immunizations, he changed," Gerodemos said. "He's never been the same."
Gerodemos has chartered a bus to Washington, D.C., and is inviting Northwest Indiana parents of autistic children to ride with him to participate in the June 4 "Green Our Vaccines" Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey DC Rally for Autism.
The ride is free for the first 55 parents to fill the bus, Gerodemos said. His Paragon Restaurant is footing the bus bill.
"Whoever has autistic kids is welcome to come," Gerodemos said. "They just have to get their own hotel room."
The bus will leave from the Paragon, 1701 E. 37th Ave., Hobart, on Tuesday, June 3, and will return Wednesday, June 5, Gerodemos said.
Gerodemos said he's "stepping up to the plate. We're not going to back down," he said. "We have to get our point across."
Green Our Vaccines promotes spacing infant and childhood vaccinations to avoid possible toxic effects on children.
I'm wondering if the MSM, who are funded by Big Pharma, will even bother to cover this rally. Bloggers, do your thing!!!

Wonderful Homebirth
I just found this great video on Spirit Led Birth Blog:
After a bad experience with the hospital birth of our first daughter, we decided we would never again go to the hospital to have a baby. This is the birth experience of our second daughter, born at home, in water. I loved it! It was an absolutely amazing and beautiful experience!

Sunday School Lesson 16: Hold to the Rod
We had a wonderful class last week as we discussed the Principle of Personal Revelation.
I am looking forward to this weeks lesson on the Iron Rod.

Note to the teacher
When we read the scriptures, it is as though we are hearing the Lord speak directly to us (see D&C 18:35–36). Help class members understand that sincere scripture study not only gives us the key to understanding eternal principles but also gives us strength to meet today’s challenges by providing inspiration and answers to our problems. Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said: “Because we believe that scripture reading can help us receive revelation, we are encouraged to read the scriptures again and again. By this means, we obtain access to what our Heavenly Father would have us know and do in our personal lives today. That is one reason Latter-day Saints believe in daily scripture study” (“Scripture Reading and Revelation,” Ensign, Jan. 1995, 8).
Suggested Lesson Development
“My Soul Delighteth in the Scriptures”
Quotation
Have a class member read the following statement by President Harold B. Lee, eleventh President of the Church:
“If there is any one thing most needed in this time of tumult and frustration, when men and women and youth and young adults are desperately seeking for answers to the problems which afflict mankind, it is an ‘iron rod’ as a safe guide along the straight path on the way to eternal life” (Stand Ye in Holy Places [1974], 351).
Scripture discussion
• What could be the “iron rod” to which President Lee referred?
Acknowledge all answers, and then explain that President Lee referred to the iron rod that the prophet Lehi saw in a dream. Display the picture of Lehi’s dream and briefly summarize 1 Nephi 8. Then have class members read 1 Nephi 15:23–24.
• In what ways can the word of God be compared to an iron rod?
• Where can we find the word of God?
List class members’ responses on the chalkboard. If they name only the standard works, have them read Doctrine and Covenants 1:38, and add “teachings of latter-day prophets” to the list. Explain that the scriptures (including the teachings of latter-day prophets, which are considered scripture) contain the word of God to his people (see also D&C 18:34–36; 68:3–4).
Story and discussion
Have a class member read the following story told by President Spencer W. Kimball about some Latter-day Saints who went to war:
“Some of our men were taken prisoner and kept in nearly total isolation. Permitted no access to the scriptures, they later told how they hungered for the words of truth, more than for food, more than for freedom itself. What they would have given for a mere fragment of the Bible or Book of Mormon that lay so idly on our shelves! They learned by hard experience something of Nephi’s feelings when he said:
“ ‘For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children.
“ ‘Behold, my soul delighteth in the things of the Lord; and my heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have seen and heard.’ (2 Nephi 4:15–16)” (“How Rare a Possession—the Scriptures!” Ensign, Sept. 1976, 4).
• Why were the scriptures so important to these men?
Ask class members to consider the answers to the next questions silently:
• How important are the scriptures to you? Do you “delight” in the scriptures?
“I Did Liken All Scriptures unto Us”
Scripture discussion
• Why is it important to read and study the scriptures? (Answers may include because they testify of Christ; because God has commanded us to do so; because they teach us the gospel; because they can help us gain or increase our testimony; because they can help us find solutions to our problems.)
Remind class members of the previous lesson on personal revelation. Explain that we can receive personal revelation through reading and studying the scriptures. The scriptures contain counsel from the Lord that applies to us as well as to the people who first received and recorded that counsel.
Have class members read and mark 1 Nephi 19:23. Have one class member read the verse aloud.
• What does it mean to “liken all scriptures” unto ourselves?
Story and discussion
Read or tell the following story:
Jessi Ramsey was the only teenage girl in the tiny branch of the Church in Sand Point, Alaska. She often felt alone and wondered if she really believed the gospel. She said, “For a while, I’d read the Book of Mormon and never seemed to get anywhere. Satan seemed to be doing all he could to keep me from gaining a testimony.”
Then she had a particularly bad day at school. She had forgotten her lunch, argued with a friend, and been hit by a hockey puck. When she came home, she went to her room to cry.
She explained: “As my tears ceased, I noticed I had left my triple combination on my desk. As I walked over to put it away, it fell open to a page marked by a card. The verses marked in ink caught my eye. I read in Doctrine and Covenants 18:10–11: ‘Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God; For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh; wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him.’
“Suddenly I realized that Christ loved me and I wanted to know him better. I had expected my testimony to be handed to me. I assumed it would be easy. I know now that I have to search, ponder, and pray. … If I have faith, my Savior will help me. …
“That night I decided to start reading the Book of Mormon again. This time, I was committed to finishing it” (Jessi Ramsey, “No Girl Is an Island,” New Era, Mar. 1994, 9).
• How did Jessi “liken [the] scriptures unto [herself]”? How did this help her?
• When have you felt that a scripture you read specifically applied to you? How have the scriptures helped you make a decision or solve a problem?
Give class members a few moments to think about these questions before answering. You may want to share an experience of your own.
Scripture activity
Point out that in the previous story, Jessi found the scripture that helped her just by opening her scriptures. Usually, however, we find answers to questions and solutions to problems by studying and seeking out specific scriptures. (You may want to teach class members how to use the Topical Guide before beginning the following activity. See the first enrichment activity for more information.)
Divide the class into small groups, and give each group a card describing one of the following situations (or another situation applicable to class members). Have the members of each group search the scriptures for verses that could help the person described on their card. (There are many possibilities for each situation. Give class members time to search their scriptures on their own. However, if a group is having trouble finding verses, direct the group to the references listed with the appropriate situation.)
When each group has found at least one applicable scripture, have group members share with the rest of the class the situation on their card and the scriptures they found. Have them explain how those scriptures could help a person in the situation described.
Situation 1
Kent is the only member of the Church in his school. Most of his classmates respect and admire him for living Church standards, but a few students ridicule and harass him.
• What scriptures could help Kent deal with the ridicule and harassment he receives? (Psalm 31:1; 2 Nephi 9:18; D&C 10:5)
Situation 2
Karla has a sister who has become less active. Her parents have spent countless hours trying to love her sister back into the Church. Lately Karla has been tempted to stop going to church so she can get some of the attention her sister is receiving.
• What scriptures might help Karla control these negative thoughts? (Psalm 37:8; Luke 15:11–32; Mosiah 13:20)
Situation 3
During the last few weeks, Heather has had many responsibilities and pressures. She doesn’t seem to have enough time in each day to accomplish everything she needs to do. She finally made a decision not to take on any new responsibilities. Now her bishop has called her to be president of her Beehive class.
• What scriptures might be helpful to Heather? (Matthew 6:33; 1 Nephi 3:7; D&C 4:2; 88:119)
Situation 4
Clark’s friends are planning a party. Part of the entertainment at the party will be a videotape that does not meet the standards of the Church or Clark’s family.
• What scriptures might help Clark make a decision about this party? (1 Thessalonians 5:22; 1 Timothy 4:12; 2 Nephi 2:27)
Situation 5
Jamie and a friend went shopping. After they left the store, the friend showed Jamie several pencils she had taken. She told Jamie that it was easy to hide them when the store clerk wasn’t looking and that because the pencils were inexpensive, she was not hurting anyone by taking them. She dared Jamie to take something next time they went into the store.
• What scriptures might help Jamie decide what to do? (Exodus 20:15; Alma 27:27; Articles of Faith 1:13)
“Study My Word”
Chalkboard discussion
• Why is it important to study the scriptures every day, not just when we need a specific answer or solution?
• Why do we sometimes have difficulty studying the scriptures every day?
List class members’ answers in a column on the chalkboard.
• What can we do to make scripture study easier and more meaningful for us?
List class members’ responses in a second column on the chalkboard and briefly discuss each one. Accept all answers, but focus on those that correspond with the difficulties listed in the first column. For example, if we have difficulty studying the scriptures because we are too sleepy, we can find another time of day to read.
Calendar activity
Give each class member a pen or pencil and a copy of the calendar grid. Have class members fill in the dates on the calendar, beginning with today.
Encourage class members to read something in the scriptures—even a single verse—every day for one month. Tell them to keep track of their reading by coloring or placing a check mark in the box for each day they read the scriptures. Have them decide right now when and where they will read and write this information on the back of the calendar.
Testimony
Bear testimony of the importance of the scriptures, both to the Church as a whole and to us personally. You may want to share a personal experience in which the scriptures helped you.
Encourage class members to study the scriptures daily and to turn to them for answers to personal questions or solutions to problems.

NRO: Jonah Goldberg - Why Hillary Won't Quit
Go Here to read the piece
QUOTE:
She can’t win. The pundits say it. The polls say it. The math says it. It’s even the word on the street. If Huggy Bear from Starsky & Hutch were around, he’d say it’s time to stick a fork in her.
So why does she keep going?
One theory is psychological, almost Aesopian. Hillary Clinton — like her husband — is a creature who follows her nature. Scorpions must sting. Ants must save food for winter. Clintons must fight.
Bill Clinton illustrated Clinton grit when he confronted Newt Gingrich during the government shutdown of the mid-’90s. “Do you know who I am?” Clinton said to Gingrich. “I’m the big rubber clown doll you had as a kid, and every time you hit it, it bounces back. That’s me — the harder you hit me, the faster I come back up.”
“That was not bravado,” writes Commentary’s John Podhoretz, author of a book about Hillary Clinton titled Can She Be Stopped? “It was a warning, and an accurate one. The Clintons are without shame, and therefore we all believe they are without honor and cannot possibly imagine themselves as heroes. But Bill very much believed, and believes, that he is a hero because he would not allow himself to be defeated, no matter what — and that part of his eventual victory would be that he could use the virulence of his foes to his advantage.”
Hillary sees herself the same way. The Clintons have campaigned as a unit. They see themselves as a team. They are fighters.
But they aren’t fools. The Clintons know how to mount a tactical retreat. Indeed, Bill’s career has been one long jujitsu match in which he’s used his enemies’ weight against them, falling backward to get the advantage.
So again, why is Hillary staying in?
Perhaps it’s the best route to long-term victory. Washington has long swirled with rumors that the Clintons are holding some “nuclear option” in reserve against Barack Obama. The latest theory is that they’ve decided not to use it, as it would destroy them, too. Who knows what it might be, if it exists at all. But it’s worth noting that if Hillary were the take-no-prisoners brawler everyone says she is, she would almost surely have pushed that button by now.
That she hasn’t used the doomsday device buried under Clinton HQ might mean it doesn’t exist. Or it might mean she’s looking beyond 2008

Warnings from the FDA Mandated Medication Guide on Antidepressants:
• thoughts about suicide or dying
• attempts to commit suicide
• new or worse depression
• new or worse anxiety
• feeling very agitated or restless
• panic attacks
• trouble sleeping (insomnia)
• new or worse irritability
• acting aggressive, being angry,
or violent
• acting on dangerous impulses
• an extreme increase in activity and
talking (mania)
• other unusual changes in behavior
or mood
Never stop an antidepressant medicine without first talking to a healthcare
provider. Stopping an antidepressant medicine suddenly can cause other
symptoms.
After Two Decades of Antidepressants - Most Prescribed Drug?- WHY??
This past week the CDC released some very shocking news - antidepressants
are now officially the most prescribed drugs on the market today.
And why is that news shocking? Let's take a look at the facts:
#1 In 2004 the FDA began to warn the public that they were seeing an
increase in suicides among youth with the use of antidepressant medications.
#2 In 2005 the official warning came from the FDA that antidepressants
double the rate of suicide for those under age 18. This was a sweeping warning
for any antidepressant ever introduced to the market and any to ever be
approved in the future. (This warning was the next closest thing they could
impose next to an outright ban of the drugs.)
#3 The FDA also warned all users of these drugs at the same time that
any abrupt change in dose of one of these drugs, whether increasing or
decreasing the drug, could produce suicide, hostility or psychosis.
#4 In December 2006 the warning for increased suicide was extended by
the FDA to anyone under the age of 25.
#5 In August 2007 Dr. Thomas Insel, head of the National Institute of
Mental Health in speaking of new studies being conducted with the use of
Ketamine ("Special K" is the street name for this sister drug to PCP - Angel Dust)
in the treatment of depression said that antidepressants produce the same
effect as Ketamine. The only difference noted was that Ketamine produced these
effects instantly where antidepressants take a few weeks to produce that
effect. They were impressed that Ketamine would rid a patient of depression
immediately where the antidepressants would take several weeks to do the same, yet
when one is aware that Ketamine and PCP are dissociative anesthetics, no one
would expect the patient to FEEL anything! [For two decades I have warned
that these antidepressants are much too similar in action to the hallucinogens
PCP and LSD.]
#6 The news came out in January 2008 that the initial studies done on
antidepressants demonstrated that these drugs are of no more benefit than a
placebo. Why was no one aware of that? Doctors and patients were no aware of
this because the very large majority of the negative studies were never made
public.
#7 Although the benefit of antidepressants is non-existent, these drugs
have a very long list of serious and very deadly side effects.
#8 In a recent retrospective study out of Sweden they found that 85% of
those who committed had recently taken antidepressants.
#9 The most popular antidepressant on the market, Effexor, now has
"homicidal ideation" (obsessive/ruminating thoughts of killing and how to kill)
listed as a side effect. The manufacturer had this data for over a decade, yet
they chose to not disclose that until a few years ago. Before that warning
was added: [I will mention just a handful of cases of professionals who should
have known.]
Andrea Yates, a nurse, drowned her five children while taking this drug.
Then, while Andrea's case was in court a female doctor in Illinois on the same
drug, killed one son and severely injured another. In Tennessee another female
doctor also on Effexor slit her 7 year old son's throat and then her own.
And then it really hit home for Wyeth when one of their own employees,
Cassandra Burgess, whose job it was to take adverse reaction reports on Effexor was
killed along with her parents and daughter by her husband who was taking
Effexor. He then took his own life. So even though she heard the adverse reports
daily on Effexor she still missed the signs in her own husband (although they
were there if you knew what signs to look for) soon enough to save herself
and her family.
The role of the FDA is to judge the risk to benefit of medications. After
seeing the studies demonstrating no more benefit than a placebo, yet deadly
enough to produce brutal homicides, why are these drugs still on the market? And
why on earth are they the most popular medications?! And the biggest question
of all . . . WHY IS IT OKAY IN AMERICA OR ANYWHERE ELSE TO HAVE PRESCRIPTION
MEDICATIONS THAT CAN PRODUCE HOMICIDAL TENDENCIES AS A SIDE EFFECT
???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We now have medical studies showing that antidepressants:
- are of no more benefit than a sugar pill
- produce fatal birth defects from heart malformations and PPH (Primary
Pulminary Hypertension)
- produce mania which includes: wild spending leading to bankruptcy, sexual
compulsions, pyromania leading to arson, another form of mania leads to
compulsions for alcohol
- keep patients from forming or maintaining meaningful romantic
relationships and that marriage relationships of 40 + years suddenly end with the
numbness that comes from these drugs thus destroying many families via divorce.
- increase chances of breast cancer by 7 times
- induce LSD flashbacks and LSD like reactions
- produce amazingly high incidents of psychotic breaks leading to an
increase in Bipolar Disorder of over 4000% in one decade!
- double the level of cortisol with one dose (steroid effect)
- produce Diabetes, Alzheimer's, Autism, Fybromyalgia - all of which
have skyrocketed in the last two decades that these drugs have become so widely
used
- produce pedophilia while we now have an epidemic of female school
teachers seducing male students
- dramatically increase suicide
- so strongly affect memory that "amnesia" is listed as a "frequent"
side effect leaving many patients with severe memory loss and false memories
leading them to falsely accuse others of various abuses
- produce serious weight gain leading to many additional health problems
- reports are that approximately one third of pregnant women are now
taking antidepressants as their baby's brains form in the womb leaving us to ask
what the end result might be
All of this helps to answer the question everyone is asking, "What on earth
is happening to our world?!"
And once again I ask the same question I have asked for two decades now,
"WHY are the antidepressants still on the market?"
[For any scientific material backing up ANY of the above statements please
feel free to contact me.]

Abuse of power in Texas
Exclusive: Joseph Farah drubs state for taking over as parents of ranch kids

By Joseph Farah
Question: What's worse for children than to have parents who are members of a polygamy cult?
Answer: To have the state for parents.
And that's just what has happened in Texas following the state's raid on the so-called polygamy compound.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, a misnamed bureaucracy if ever there was one, has demanded the children seized by the state and placed in foster care be immunized immediately against the wishes of their mothers, who fear negative effects.
Ahh, but those mothers are no longer mothers, explains Patrick Crimmins, spokesman for the department.
"We're the legal parents of the children and we would like for them to be immunized," he said.
Now, I'm the first to recognize the mothers in this case have made some objectively poor decisions about their lives. However, does anyone really believe Crimmins and his state bureaucrats really care more for these children than do their mothers? How have these mothers abrogated their parental rights? What crime have they committed? With what are they being charged? Why are they losing custody of their children? Have these children been abused or neglected? All of them? How?
All the public has heard since the raid on the compound is that the children seem to be in good health. Questions were raised by early pregnancies among some of the girls. I have news for you: Teenage girls are getting pregnant and having sex with older men throughout American society today. If these mothers are going to lose custody of their children as a result of that kind of sexual activity, what about the high percentages of teen pregnancies in our inner cities? Can we expect Texas and the other states soon to begin seizing millions of kids – both girls and boys in those families?
This situation in Texas is looking more and more like a heavy-handed abuse of power by government.
Is the state trying to make an example of these parents? Are all the parents being punished collectively for the crimes of a few? Is that the new American way?
When I hear a government bureaucrat claim to be the parents of children he has never met, it sets me off.
It is an explosive statement.
It is the kind of offensive and officious statement that will only serve to create more fear and distrust of government – frankly, the very conditions that lead to the creation of compounds like the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Frankly, the state does not even know whether the children have been immunized or not. In some cases, the mothers say their children have had shots, but the records are in Utah, not in Texas.
But these parents are hardly alone in our society when it comes to rejecting inoculations of questionable safety.
Who's next?
Will Texas decide it is also the lawful parent of children who homeschool and whose mothers and fathers made conscious and well-informed decisions not to immunize their kids because of the potential for dire health risks?
Why does the public accept the need for the state to intrude in this jackbooted manner when it comes to these parents and children?
Again, what were the individual crimes committed that warrant this heavy hand?
Or, are they being punished collectively for the guilt of a few?
If Texas authorities looked at certain neighborhoods in Houston and Dallas, they would likely find teen pregnancy rates at least as high as those in the FLDS compound. Why is it that the parents of those children are not being rounded up and their offspring being placed in foster care homes?
The answer is obvious: Because it would be wrong to do so.
If it is wrong in those neighborhoods, it is equally wrong in the FLDS neighborhood.
Again, I don't like some of the things that went on in that community. I don't approve of them. There may even have been some laws broken. But there is no evidence being made public to suggest every single mother in the compound abused or neglected her children – or to suggest these poor kids would be better off with the state of Texas as their parent.

FLDS Mothers May Have To Abandon Religion To Reunite With Children

Ruth, 31, a mother of four children, left rear, becomes emotional as Velvet, 31, right, a mother of one child whose children are all in state custody tell reporters during a news conference of how they were separated from their children earlier in the day as they stand outside the Yearning For Zion ranch near Eldorado, Texas, Thursday, April 24, 2008.
(Associated Press)
FLDS Mothers May Have To Abandon Religion To Reunite With Children
Watch the video associated with this outrageous story!
And here is the thread at Free Republic where a bunch of freedom loving constitutionalists are making complete idiots out of themselves by defending the Texas Authorities stealing children from their parents and forcing women to give up their religion and/or family life as they conform to societal expectations.
Please note: If children were being molested and/or If girls under the age of 14 were being forced into marriage with people they did not want to marry, then sure, charge the people who committed the crimes and then throw the book at them, lock them up, and then throw away the key.
Texans did not have any trouble with girls under sixteen getting married for the hundred years before the FLDS showed up, and created that law to increase the marital age just to punish the religious lifestyle of those families.
This lifestlye and religion does NOT give the old biddies at Texas social services the right to steal the children and then put them up for adoption into so called "normal" families. Children in foster care have a very high incidence of being molested, drugged with psychoactive medicines, and Texas in particular is in bed with the big pharma companies when it comes to children in Foster Care.
As I said before....Give em back!!!
This movie is an expose of the high incidence of foster kids being drugged with toxic mind altering meds while in Foster Care in the state of Texas.
Here is the text of the story:
Abandoning their religion and husbands may be the only way that FLDS mothers will be reunited with their children. Texas official issued new rules, Thursday, that dictate what the mothers will have to do before the state will return the 464 children.
The plan says that the mothers will have to prove that they have provided the children with “a home free of persons who have, or will abuse the children.”
Texas officials consider many polygamist husbands as abusers.
On top of that, Texas officials will have to know every person living in any building where any of the children live. This would make customary polygamist communal housing impossible.
FLDS Attorney, Rod Parker says that “the rules are subject to interpretation by Child Protective Services (CPS) in a manner that makes it impossible for these people to live on the ranch.”
To hammer their point even harder, Texas officials told FLDS communities that if they don’t cooperate, the court could “terminate parental rights” and “appoint a conservator with authority to consent to each child’s adoption.”
“Those terms are going to be defined, ultimately, by Texas CPS, and what Texas CPS says is a safe environment or appropriate education, exclude participation in this religion,” Parker said.
The initial call, that alleged that a 16-year-old girl was beaten and raped by FLDS member Dale Barlow, has never been identified, and is believed by many to have been a prank. Still, authorities are convinced that there is a repeated pattern of abuse on FLDS compounds.
Authorities point out that many of the teenage girls in custody were pregnant, some as young as 13 years old. They also say there is a conspiracy of secrecy within the mothers. They say that FLDS moms will not cooperate with identifying their children.
Authorities also claimed that FLDS boys had signs of broken bones and that they had possibly been sexually abuse as well.
Now, for the first time, the state is talking about lost boys who have allegedly been forced out of the group in order to have more women than men in the community for polygamy.
There are lost boys in Utah, however, Texas cannot name one lost boy.
Officials say that the proof is that there are more 16-to-17-year-old girls than boys.
FLDS attorney, Rod Parker says that Texas is counting 20-to-22-year-old women as underage girls.
“But we know they are counting women as underage girls,” said Parker. “That’s why the ratio is out of whack.”

Ron Pauls Revolution just arrived from Amazon!
I purchased Ron Pauls new book and it arrived yesterday. I've read the first two chapters. It looks like it is going to be an excellent book.
I disagree that we did not have cause to invade Iraq and take Sadaam out of power. I am someone who believes that Iraq was involved in the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995, based on the investigative reporting of Jayna Davis. And I also believe that this incident alone gave us "just cause" for the invasion. I also believe that the war in Iraq was just another front on the cold war, based on this interview with Ian Pacepa at Frong Page Magazine. The complete interview is found below, and dispels any myths about Sadaam and Weapons of Mass destruction. He had them, and he knew how to hide them, despite what Ron Paul says.
But from what I have read so far in Dr. Pauls book, I agree with most of what he has said, especially regarding domestic policy and Americas Founders views on International relations. Here is a link to an article talking about his book.
And you can order the book through Amazon here.
From Russia With Terror
By Jamie Glazov
FrontPageMagazine.com | Monday, March 01, 2004
Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Ion Mihai Pacepa, former acting chief of Communist Romania’s espionage service. In 1987 he published Red Horizons (Regnery Gateway), reprinted in 24 countries. In 1999 Mr. Pacepa authored The Black Book of the Securitate, reportedly an all time bestseller in Romania. He is now finishing a book on the origins of current anti-Americanism.
Frontpage Magazine: Welcome to Frontpage Interview, Mr. Pacepa. Let’s begin. As a former Romanian spy chief who used to take direct orders from the Soviet KGB, you are obviously armed with a wealth of information. You have written about how the Soviets armed Hussein with WMDs, and also taught him how to eliminate any trace of them. Can you talk a bit about this and tell us its connection to the “missing WMDs” in Iraq today?
Pacepa: Contemporary political memory seems to be conveniently afflicted with some kind of Alzheimer's disease. Not long ago, every Western leader, starting with President Clinton, fumed against Saddam’s WMD. Now almost no one remembers that after General Hussein Kamel, Saddam’s son-in-law, defected to Jordan in 1995, he helped us find “more than one hundred metal trunks and boxes” containing documentation “dealing with all categories of weapons, including nuclear.” He also aided UNSCOM to fish out of the Tigris River high-grade missile components prohibited to Iraq. That was exactly what my old Soviet-made “Sãrindar” plan stated he should do in case of emergency: destroy the weapons, hide the equipment, and preserve the documentation. No wonder Saddam hastened to lure Kamel back to Iraq, where three days later he was killed together with over 40 of his relatives in what the Baghdad official press described as a “spontaneous administration of tribal justice.” Once that was done, Saddam slammed the door shut to any UNSCOM inspection.
FP: So was any Sãrindar plan activated?
Pacepa: Certainly. The minimal version of the Sãrindar plan I made for Libya’s Gaddafi. Soon after I was granted political asylum in the US, Gaddafi staged a fire at the secret chemical weapons facility I knew about (the cellar underneath the Rabta chemical complex). To be sure the CIA satellites would notice that fire and cross that target off its list, he created a huge cloud of black smoke by burning truckloads of tires and painting scorch marks on the facility. That was written in the Sãrindar plan. To be on the safe side, Gaddafi also built a second production facility, this time placed some 100 feet underground in the hollowed-out Tarhunah Mountain, south of Tripoli. That was not in the Sãrindar plan.
FP: It is undeniable, therefore, that Saddam had WMDs, right?
Pacepa: In the early 1970s, the Kremlin established a “socialist division of labor” for persuading the governments of Iraq and Libya to join the terrorist war against the US. KGB chairman Yury Andropov (who would later become the leader of the Soviet Union), told me that either of those two countries could inflict more damage on the Americans than could the Red Brigades, the Baader-Meinhof group and all other terrorist organizations taken together. The governments of those Arab countries, Andropov explained, not only had inexhaustible financial resources (read: oil), but they also had huge intelligence services that were being run by “our razvedka advisers” and could extend their tentacles to every corner of the earth. There was one major danger, though: by raising terrorism to the state level we risked American reprisal. Washington would never dispatch its airplanes and rockets to exterminate the Baader-Meinhof, but it might well deploy them to destroy a terrorist state. We therefore were also tasked to provide those countries secretly with weapons of mass destruction, because Andropov concluded that the Yankees would never attack a country that could retaliate with such deadly weapons.
Libya was Romania’s main client in that socialist division of labor, because of Ceausescu’s close association with Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. Moscow kept Iraq. Andropov told me that, if our Iraq and Libyan experiment proved successful, the same strategy would be extended to Syria. Recently, Libya’s Gaddafi admitted to having WMD, and the CIA inspectors found them. Why should we believe that the almighty Soviet Union, which had proliferated WMD all over the world, was not able to do the same thing in Iraq? Every piece of armament Iraq had came from the former Soviet Union—from the Katyusha launchers to the T72 tanks, BMP-1 fighting vehicles and MiG fighter planes. In the spring of 2002, just a couple of weeks after Russia took its place at the NATO table, President Putin and his ex-KGB officers who are now running Russia concluded another $40 billion trade deal with Saddam Hussein’s tyrannical regime in Iraq. That was not for grain or beans—Russia has to import them from elsewhere.
FP: Tell us about the PLO and its connection to the Soviet regime.
Pacepa: The PLO was dreamt up by the KGB, which had a penchant for “liberation” organizations. There was the National Liberation Army of Bolivia, created by the KGB in 1964 with help from Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Then there was the National Liberation Army of Colombia, created by the KGB in 1965 with help from Fidel Castro, which was soon deeply involved in kidnappings, hijackings, bombings and guerrilla warfare. In later years the KGB also created the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which carried out numerous bombing attacks on the “Palestinian territories” occupied by Israel, and the “Secret Army for Liberation of Armenia,” created by the KGB in 1975, which organized numerous bombing attacks against US airline offices in Western Europe.
In 1964 the first PLO Council, consisting of 422 Palestinian representatives handpicked by the KGB, approved the Palestinian National Charter—a document that had been drafted in Moscow. The Palestinian National Covenant and the Palestinian Constitution were also born in Moscow, with the help of Ahmed Shuqairy, a KGB influence agent who became the first PLO chairman. (During the Six-Day War he escaped from Jerusalem disguised as a woman, thereafter becoming such a symbol within the bloc intelligence community that one of its later influence operations—aimed at making the West consider Arafat a moderate—was given the codename “Shuqairy.”) This new PLO was headed by a Soviet-style Executive Committee made up of 15 members who, like their comrades in Moscow, also headed departments. As in Moscow—and Bucharest—the chairman of the Executive Committee became the general commander of the armed forces as well. The new PLO also had a General Assembly, which was the Soviet-inspired name given to all East European parliaments after World War II.
Based on another “socialist division of labor,” the Romanian espionage service (DIE) was responsible for providing the PLO with logistical support. Except for the arms, which were supplied by the KGB and the East German Stasi, everything else came from Bucharest. Even the PLO uniforms and the PLO stationery were manufactured in Romania free of charge, as a “comradely help.” During those years, two Romanian cargo planes filled with goodies for the PLO landed in Beirut every week, and were unloaded by Arafat’s men.
FP: You have discussed your personal knowledge of how Arafat was created and cultivated by the KGB and how the Soviets actually designed him to be the future leader of the PLO. Illuminate this picture for us please.
Pacepa: “Tovarishch Mohammed Abd al-Rahman Abd al-Raouf Arafat al-Qudwa al-Husseini, nom de guerre Abu Ammar,” was built into a Palestinian leader by the KGB in the aftermath of the 1967 Six-Day Arab-Israeli War. In that war Israel humiliated two of the Soviet Union’s most important allies in the Arab world of that time, Egypt and Syria, and the Kremlin thought that Arafat could help repair the Soviet prestige. Arafat had begun his political career as leader of the Palestinian terrorist organization al-Fatah, whose fedayeen were being secretly trained in the Soviet Union. In 1969, the KGB managed to catapult him up as chairman of the PLO executive committee. Egyptian ruler Gamal Abdel Nasser, who was also a Soviet puppet, publicly proposed the appointment.
Soon after that, the KGB tasked Arafat to declare war on American “imperial-Zionism” during the first summit of the Black International, an organization that was also financed by the KGB. Arafat claimed to have coined the word “imperial-Zionism,” but in fact Moscow had invented this battle cry many years earlier, combining the traditionally Russian anti-Semitism with the new Marxist anti-Americanism.
FP: Why has the American and Israeli leadership been deceived so long about Arafat’s criminal and terrorist activities?
Pacepa: Because Arafat is a master of deceit—and I unfortunately contributed to that. In March 1978, for instance, I secretly brought Arafat to Bucharest to involve him in a long-planned Soviet/Romanian disinformation plot. Its goal was to get the United States to establish diplomatic relations with him, by having him pretend to transform the terrorist PLO into a government-in-exile that was willing to renounce terrorism. Soviet president Leonid Brezhnev believed that newly elected US president Jimmy Carter would swallow the bait. Therefore, he told the Romanian dictator that conditions were ripe for introducing Arafat into the White House. Moscow gave Ceausescu the job because by 1978 my boss had become Washington’s most favored tyrant. “The only thing people in the West care about is our leaders,” the KGB chairman said, when he enrolled me in the effort of making Arafat popular in Washington. “The more they come to love them, the better they will like us.”
“But we are a revolution,” Arafat exploded, after Ceausescu explained what the Kremlin wanted from him. “We were born as a revolution, and we should remain an unfettered revolution.” Arafat expostulated that the Palestinians lacked the tradition, unity, and discipline to become a formal state. That statehood was only something for a future generation. That all governments, even Communist ones, were limited by laws and international agreements, and he was not willing to put any laws or other obstacles in the way of the Palestinian struggle to eradicate the state of Israel.
My former boss was able to persuade Arafat into tricking President Carter only by resorting to dialectical materialism, for both were fanatical Stalinists who knew their Marxism by heart. Ceausescu sympathetically agreed that “a war of terror is your only realistic weapon,” but he also told his guest that, if he would transform the PLO into a government-in-exile and would pretend to break with terrorism, the West would shower him with money and glory. “But you have to keep on pretending, over and over,” my boss emphasized.
Ceausescu pointed out that political influence, like dialectical materialism, was built upon the same basic tenet that quantitative accumulation generates qualitative transformation. Both work like cocaine, let’s say. If you sniff it once or twice, it may not change your life. If you use it day after day, though, it will make you into an addict, a different man. That’s the qualitative transformation. And in the shadow of your government-in-exile you can keep as many terrorist groups as you want, as long as they are not publicly connected with your name.
In April 1978 I accompanied Ceausescu to Washington, where he convinced President Jimmy Carter that he could persuade Arafat to transform his PLO into a law-abiding government-in-exile, if the United States would establish official relations with him. Thereupon, President Carter publicly hailed Ceausescu as a “great national and international leader” who had “taken on a role of leadership in the entire international community.”
Three months later I was granted political asylum by the United States, and Romania’s tyrant lost his dream of getting the Nobel Peace Prize. A quarter of a century later, however, Arafat remains in place as the PLO chairman and seems to still be on track with the Kremlin’s game of deception. In 1994, Arafat was granted the Nobel Peace Prize because he agreed to transform his terrorist organization into a kind of government-in-exile (the Palestinian Authority) and pretended, over and over, that he would abolish the articles in the 1964 PLO Covenant that call for the destruction of the state of Israel and would eradicate Palestinian terrorism. At the end of the 1998-99 Palestinian school year, however, all one hundred and fifty new schoolbooks used by Arafat’s Palestinian Authority described Israel as the “Zionist enemy” and equated Zionism with Nazism. Two years after the Oslo Accords were signed, the number of Israelis killed by Palestinian terrorists rose by 73% compared to the two year period preceding the agreement.
FP: There simply can’t be any kind of peace in the Middle East with Arafat at the helm. What advice would you give to American and Israeli diplomats now?
Pacepa: To expose Arafat’s lies and condemn his bloody terrorism, but to avoid being implicated in physical reprisals against him—that would certainly make him a hero with the Palestinians. I strongly suggest the Ceausescu solution. In November 1989, when he was loudly reelected president of Romania, Ceausescu was as popular there as Arafat is now with the Palestinians. A month later, however, Ceausescu was tried for genocide by his own people and executed by his own people. From one day to the next Ceausescu became the symbol of tyranny. Romania turned into a free country, and twelve years later it was invited to join NATO.
FP: Tell us a bit about what you think about the state of the KGB in Russia today. Some say it is experiencing a resurrection. Is this true?
Pacepa: It certainly is. In the last dozen years, Russia has been transformed for the better in unprecedented ways. Nevertheless, that country has a long way to go until it will tear down the legacy of Soviet Communism. As of June 2003, some 6,000 former KGB officers were reportedly holding important positions in Russia’s central and regional governments. Three months later, nearly half of the top governmental positions were also held by former KGB. It is like putting the old, supposedly defeated Gestapo in charge of rebuilding Germany.
Since the fall of Communism the Russians have been faced with an indigenous form of capitalism run by old Communist bureaucrats, speculators and ruthless mafiosi that has widened social inequities and created a decline in industrial production. Therefore, after a period of upheaval, the Russians have gradually—and perhaps thankfully—slipped back into their historical form of government, the traditional Russian samoderzhaviye (autocracy) traceable to the 14th century’s Ivan the Terrible, in which a feudal lord ruled the country with the help of his personal political police. Good or bad, the historically Russian political police may appear to most people in that country as their only defense against the rapacity of the new capitalists at home and the greediness of grasping foreign neighbors.
Russia will never return to Communism—too many Russians perished at the hands of that heresy. But it seems that Russia will not truly turn westward either, at least not under this generation. If history—including that of the last 14 years—is any guide, the Russians, who are now enjoying their regained nationalism, will struggle to rebuild a kind of an Old Russian Empire by inspiring themselves from old Russian traditions and by using old Russian ways and means.
FP: So is Russia a friend or a foe of the United States in the present international environment?
Pacepa: After the Berlin Wall was torn down, I hurried over there to have a look around. The dreaded East German political police was abolished from one day to the next, and its archives were opened to the public. One year later, the Stasi’s outrageous activity was laid bare in a large, impressive museum of freedom. A member of the Berlin parliament told me that the Germans wanted to provide the world with the certitude that the past would never be repeated. To be on the safe side, the German government sold off all the Stasi’s buildings to private companies.
After the Soviet Union collapsed, the new rulers in the Kremlin did not open the archives of the Soviet Union’s political police, but in 1992 they did create their own kind of KGB museum in Moscow, in a dreary gray building behind the Lubyanka. The upper floors remain KGB offices, but the rooms on the ground floor are used for conferences and as a club for retired KGB officers—complete with disco.
On September 11, 2002, numerous former KGB officers gathered at the KGB museum. They had not congregated in order to sympathize with us on the date of our national tragedy, but to celebrate the 125th birthday of Feliks Dzerzhinsky—the man who created one of the most criminal institutions in contemporary history. A few days later, Moscow’s mayor, Yury Lushkov, one of Russia’s most influential politicians, reversed his previous opposition and now said he wanted to restore Dzerzhinsky’s bronze statue to its former place of honor on Lubyanka Square. Just before that, the new Russian president ordered that the statue of Yury Andropov be reinstated at the Lubyanka, from where it had been removed after the KGB coup in 1991. Andropov is indeed the only other KGB officer to have been enthroned in the Kremlin, and it was therefore normal for Putin to pay homage to him. For all his life, Andropov indoctrinated his subordinates to believe that American Imperialism was the main enemy of their country. Now these subordinates are running Russia. It may take another generation until the visceral hatred for the US cultivated by Andropov disappears.
FP: How does Russia fit in the War on Terror? Isn’t there at least a common interest in fighting Islamic terrorism?
Pacepa: September 11, 2001 was directly rooted in a joint Soviet/Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) operation conceived in the aftermath of the 1967 Six-Day Arab-Israeli War. The object of this joint operation was to repair Moscow's prestige by turning the Islamic world against Israel and by creating a rabid and violent hatred for its main supporter, the United States. The strategy was to portray the US, this land of freedom, as a Nazi-style "imperial-Zionist country" financed by Jewish money and run by a rapacious "Council of the Elders of Zion" (the Kremlin's epithet for the US Congress), the aim of which was allegedly to transform the rest of the world into a Jewish fiefdom. In other words, the heart of the joint plan was to convert the historical Arab and Islamic hatred of the Jews into a new hatred of the United States. We threw many millions of dollars at this gigantic task, which involved whole armies of intelligence officers.
In the late 1960s, a new element was added to the Soviet/PLO war against Israel and American imperial-Zionism: international terrorism. Before 1969 came to an end, the KGB's Thirteenth Department-known in our intelligence jargon as the Department for Wet Affairs, wet being a euphemism for bloody-invented airplane hijacking. The KGB constantly lectured at us that no one within the
American/Zionist sphere of influence should feel safe anymore. The hijacked airplane became an instrument of Soviet foreign policy-and eventually the weapon of choice for September 11, 2001.
During those years of intensive airplane hijackings, I became amazed at the almost identical pride both Arafat and KGB General Sakharovsky exhibited over their prowess as terrorists. “I invented the hijacking of [passenger] airplanes,” Arafat bragged to me in the early 1970s, when I first met him. A few months later I met with Sakharovsky at his Lubyanka office. He pointed to the red flags pinned onto a world map hanging on his wall. “Look at that,” he said. Each flag represented a plane that had been downed. “Airplane hijacking is my own invention,” he boasted.
Sakharovsky’s subordinates are now reigning in the Kremlin. Until they fully disclose their involvement in creating anti-American terrorism and condemn Arafat’s terrorism, there is no reason to believe they have changed.
FP: Mr. Pacepa. thank you. We are out of time. It was a great honor to speak with you. I hope you will return and join us again.
Pacepa: It was a great pleasure to be with you, and I would be delighted to return.

My humble apologies to Dr. Amy Tuteur MD
Yesterday Dr. Amy of the Homebirth Debate blog wrote that I made up a lie about her that is making the rounds on Motherings Discussion Boards.
She wrote:
"it came out a few months ago that "Dr Amy" is on the payroll of ACOG (That's a lie made up by Jenny Hatch. Of course, if anyone would like to pay me to write what I am going to write anyway, I'd be happy to accept it. Maybe someone can call ACOG and tell them I deserve to be paid.)"
I am very sorry Amy that my public suspicion of you is gathering steam and people are throwing around the idea that you are a paid shill for ACOG.
The obstetric WALL - a movie produced by Jenny Hatch
When we were debating at Salon last spring, I honestly could not believe that anyone will half a brain could believe the things that you write. And it was in a letter I wrote to Salon that I first began to explore the idea publicly that you are a paid harpie.
Unassisted Childbirth with Doula Care
I said:
We all know Dr. Amy is a Party Pooper, but is she a fraud too?
Dr. Amy,
I've noticed that you don't have any pictures up on your three blogs. You also have no video, and rarely if ever, talk about your family.
You don't talk like a real woman. I have had contact with hundreds of women in my circle of life. Friends, my eleven sisters and sisters in law, those who took my childbirth class, and fellow Bradley Teachers etc etc.... And you don't express yourself like a real woman.
You are a caricature of a person spewing the party line over and over and over in the various places you post and write and defend to the death the obstetrical model of birth.
You know who I think you are?
I think you are four Public Relations dudes from Eli Lilly set up as a blogger to defend the staus quo on the web.
It is up to you to prove that you are real. Post a video of yourself on You Tube. And while you are at it, let us see your birth certificate and credentials in that video.
The thing about the web is, you can fool some of the people some of the time, but if you are a blogger fraud, you will be found out.
Times up DR. AMY, the onus is on you. Prove that you are real. DO IT NOW, and do not write one more word against home birth until you do.
The Reuters UC Birth article is up. http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSL2148514320070522
You are swimming against a flood of evidence based birth practices and I believe it is simply time for you to go away.

Laura Shanley and Jenny Hatch respond to the Business of Being Born Movie
Since that day, almost exactly a year ago, I have read much more of what you have written, and I have come to sadly realize that you do indeed believe everything you write on your blog.
Wether you are paid to write your blog and defend hospital birth to the death in chat rooms and comment sections on newspapers by pharmacuetical companies, ACOG, or any other Medical entity is not something I can prove at this time. It is simply something I have long suspected about you. But I don't have any evidence that anyone in the medical profession is paying you to write your blog.
Our Journey to Homebirth by Teresa
I have lived in a birth cocoon here in Boulder Colorado. Surrounded by free thinking women who give birth in tents, backyards, oceans, and yes, even their own bedrooms. I have filled my mind with the empowering words of the very writers you most condemn, and I worked for many years as a Bradley Childbirth Teacher. I had no idea that in our modern day and age when woman are being encouraged to literally fly to the moon as astronauts, a female like you would be bullying them into "doctor knows best" birthing situations.
But you do exist and you do have your opinions, and as a loud supporter of free speech and a defender to the death of open and honest debate in any given area of controversy and opinion, I have to step back from my original assumptions about who and what was motivating you to write the things that you do and simply apologize for calling you and some of the people in your comment section "Paid Harpies for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists".
I have zero evidence that you are getting paid for said opinions, and I have zero evidence that your commenters are paid for the time they spend spewing against home birth. I only suspect that you and some of your commenters (like Antigonos) are paid for your blatherings.
Please accept my heartfelt apologies.
It was very wrong of me to write publicly that you were whoring for pharmaceutical companies however much I might assume and/or suspect that such a thing could be happening on your blog and in chat rooms.
