Sunday School Lesson 4 The Atonement of Jesus Christ

jenny_medium2.jpg

The lesson I get to teach on sunday is perhaps the most important in the manual. I am looking forward to covering the material with the 12 and 13 year olds in my class. We always have a spirit filled discussion.

Note to the teacher

The Atonement of Jesus Christ is at the center of the gospel. Through the Atonement, we have the opportunity to repent and gain exaltation. Giving class members an understanding of the Atonement is a challenging assignment that can only be fulfilled with the help of the Spirit. As with all lessons, seek direction from the Spirit as you prepare and teach this lesson (see Teaching—No Greater Call, 13).

Suggested Lesson Development

Jesus Christ Gave His Life for Us

Story

Using your own words, relate the following true story:

On a cold, wintry day in 1982, an airplane crashed into a bridge in Washington, D.C., and landed in the Potomac River. Most of the people on the plane were killed immediately, but six people got out of the plane and hung on to its tail while two men in a helicopter threw them a life preserver. The water was very cold, and it was hard to hang on to the plane. The rescuers were afraid that the passengers might lose their grip and drown before they could be pulled out and carried to safety. The rescuers noticed that one man seemed to be more alert than the others, so they lowered the life preserver to him. But every time they did this, he passed the life preserver to someone else so the other person could be rescued first. When the other five people were safe, the helicopter went back for the man, but he was gone. (See Roger Rosenblatt, “The Man in the Water,” Time, 25 Jan. 1982, 86; see also Thomas S. Monson, Ensign, May 1983, 56.)

Discussion

• What do you think of this man’s actions? What might you have done in this situation? What Christlike qualities did this man demonstrate?

Picture presentation

Display the four pictures of Jesus Christ. Explain that the man in the river did a great thing when he selflessly gave his own life to save the lives of five other people. But Jesus Christ did an even greater thing: he gave his life to save the spiritual lives of everyone on earth. This lesson will discuss Jesus Christ’s role as our Savior.

We Need a Savior

Discussion

Ask class members to review what they remember about the Fall from the previous lesson.

Remind class members that because Adam and Eve ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, both spiritual and physical death came into the world.

• What happens in physical death? (A person’s body is separated from his or her spirit.)

• What happens in spiritual death? (A person is separated from Heavenly Father.)

Explain that without a Savior, both physical death and spiritual death would be permanent. After death our bodies and spirits would be separated forever, and we would be unable to live with Heavenly Father again. But just as the Fall was part of Heavenly Father’s plan, Heavenly Father also planned for us to have a Savior who would overcome both physical and spiritual death.

Jesus Christ Was Chosen to Be Our Savior

Scripture discussion

Have one or more class members read aloud John 1:1–3, 14 and Moses 4:2 (you may need to explain that “the Word” in John 1 is used as a name for Jesus Christ). Remind class members that Jesus Christ was with Heavenly Father before the earth was created and that he was chosen in the premortal world to create the earth and become our Savior.

• How was Jesus’ existence on earth different from everyone else’s? Why are these differences important?

Answers may vary, but bring out that Jesus was the Only Begotten Son of Heavenly Father (Heavenly Father was the father of Jesus’ physical body as well as his spirit) and that he was the only person to lead a sinless life on earth. Explain that these two qualities—his Godhood and his sinlessness—were necessary to enable Christ to atone for our sins and be our Savior.

• What does the word atone mean? (As used in the scriptures, to atone is to “correct or overcome the consequences of sin” and make “at one” people who have been separated [see “Atonement,” Bible Dictionary, 617].)

• How does Jesus Christ’s Atonement help us become “at one” with Heavenly Father?

Refer to the four pictures shown earlier in the lesson. Explain that eternal law, or justice, requires that whoever violates a law must be punished. Through his suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane and his death on the cross, Jesus Christ took upon himself the punishment for the sins of everyone who ever lived on the earth. Because of this Atonement, we can repent of our sins, be freed from guilt, and be worthy to dwell with Heavenly Father again.

Because of Jesus Christ We Can Be Saved If We Repent

Video presentation

Show the video segment “The Mediator.” If the videocassette is not available, read or tell the story in the fourth enrichment activity. Before you start the video or tell the story, you may need to explain that a debtor is someone who borrows or owes money, and a creditor is someone who lends money.

Discussion

After you have shown the video or shared the story, explain that this story is a parable symbolizing our relationship with our Savior.

• Who does the debtor represent? (Each of us.)

• What does the creditor represent? (The laws of justice.)

• Who does the debtor’s friend represent? (Jesus Christ.)

Explain that when we agreed to come to earth and receive bodies, we knew that we would sometimes make wrong decisions. Our sins are like the debt of the man in the story. The laws of justice demand that our sins be paid for if we are to return to live with Heavenly Father again. Because Jesus was sinless and the Only Begotten Son of Heavenly Father, he was the only one who could atone for our sins and satisfy justice.

• In the story, the mediator (the debtor’s friend) said he would become the debtor’s new creditor. The debt would be repaid on his terms. What terms has Christ set for us? In other words, what must we do to receive all the blessings of Christ’s Atonement?

Scripture discussion

To help class members find the answer, have three class members each read aloud one of the following scriptures: John 3:16, 2 Nephi 9:21–22, and Doctrine and Covenants 19:16.

Explain that because of Christ’s Atonement for us, we are unconditionally saved from physical death. Everyone will be resurrected. But in order to be saved from spiritual death and be with Heavenly Father again, we must believe in Christ, follow and obey him, and repent of our sins.

• What will happen to us if we do not repent of our sins? (See D&C 19:17–18; we will have to suffer for our own sins.)

• What would have happened to the debtor in the story if his friend had not offered to help him? (He would have gone to prison and had all his possessions taken away.) What would happen to us if Jesus Christ had not atoned for us? (See 2 Nephi 9:7–9; we would not be resurrected, and our sins in this life would keep us out of the presence of Heavenly Father forever.)

• How do you feel, knowing that Jesus Christ has paid the price for your sins? (Invite class members to answer this question to themselves if they do not wish to share their feelings with the class.)

Testimony

Testify of the Savior’s love for each class member, which he showed by atoning for our sins. Express your gratitude for his Atonement.

Urge class members to follow Jesus Christ and repent of their sins so they may receive the full blessings of Christ’s Atonement.

Blessing Way for Susana TONIGHT!

My dearest friends Susana is having her blessing way tonight. Here is the text of her blog entry that describes her Christian Blessing Way.

Jenny Hatch

Here is a link to my own Blessing Way Ceremony

I am planning a blessingway, or a spiritual dedication of my birth. This is the plan that I have laid out. My friend Dee will be leading the blessingway, which I am holding in my home. She will say the following scripts in her own words. In addition to this plan below, Dee plans to lavish me with a detoxifying foot wash and rub, and I am planning on having all the ladies in attendance sew a stitch in a baby outfit.

Prayer- opening prayer/blessing on the food -Sasha

*All Sing a hymn- "I stand all amazed"

*Introductions -

The scriptures give the geonologies of our forefathers. In 2 Tim 1:5 Paul praises Timothy's female ancestors when he says: "When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in they grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also."

Let us honor our own female ancestors as far back as we can remember them.
My name is __________, the daughter of ___________, the daughter of __________
(Dee initiates)

* Explain why we are gathered here:
We are here to Praise God for the joy of motherhood, the experience of birth, and for the new life that is about to join us here on earth. We are here to encourage Susana, to share with her and eachother our testimonies, that Jesus is our Savior, that Heavenly Father answers prayer, and that the Holy Spirit comforts, strengthens and directs us. One of the main ways we will do this is through song.

* Camille (my daughter) sing solo/play guitar, "Come thou Fount"

* Susannah sing solo

* Dee sing solo

* Sharing of symobolic gifts/testimony:
Now is the time for us to share the meaning/ significance of the items we have brought and also to offer an uplifting thought or scripture. (Dee initiate)

* Annette sing solo

* Our symbolic tie- As sisters and mothers we are joined by the experience of giving birth and mothering. (Tie string around each wrist in continuous circle.) This string represents that bond that we have all the way back through our mothers and grandmothers, even back to Mary and Eve who praised God after her birth when she said, "I have gotten a man from the Lord". We will cut this string and tie it around our wrists to remind us to keep Susana, her baby, and her family in our prayers.

* All sing hymn-
*Closing prayer- Offered by Dee
* Refreshments

My sweet friend, Jenny Hatch, who doesn't live in my state, sent me her thoughtful gift (below)via email. (It includes a snipppet from the 2nd Annual Husband/Wife Homebirth conference.)

Amazing Grace

UPDATE:

February 2nd, 2008

My 40th birthday was today and Paul gave me the gift I asked for. The DVD of Amazing Grace. We watched it as a family tonight.

This afternoon he pulled out his guitar and we sang the song together. Here is a copy of our first time through. It is a little rough, but it was nice to sing the song as a duet.

I bought the score for the music from Amazing Grace as a chirstmas present to myself. I've been working on the title song, absolutely love it, and loved the movie which we rented last thanksgiving.

Here is the music video of the song:

CHRIS TOMLIN LYRICS

"Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)"

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, Amazing grace

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, Amazing grace

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

Here are the Lyrics to the whole Song originally written by John Newton:

The Lyrics of the Song

Amazing Grace (How sweet the sound)
That sav'd a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev'd;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believ'd!

Thro' many dangers, toils and snare,
I have already come;
'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall profess, within the vail,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who call'd me here below,
Will be for ever mine.

John Newton (played by Albert Finney in Amazing Grace) wrote the words to one of the most beloved hymns of all time between 1760 and 1770, while working as an evangelical pastor. Son of the commander of a merchant ship, Newton was captain of a slave ship for many years, until he underwent a dramatic religious conversion while steering his vessel through a storm.

Repenting and regretting the misery he had inflicted on the thousands of human cargo he had transported across the Middle Passage for many years, he devoted his life to the Church, and wrote the lyrics to many hymns which are still popular today.

In 1780 Newton left Olney to become rector of St. Mary Woolnoth, St. Mary Woolchurch, in London. There he drew large congregations and influenced many, among them William Wilberforce. Newton continued to preach until the last year of life, although he was blind by that time. He died in London December 21, 1807.

Patriot Vol. 08 No. 05 Chronicle | 30 January 2008

THE FOUNDATION: COMMERCE
“[O]ur Commercial policy should hold an equal and impartial hand: neither seeking nor granting exclusive favours or preferences; consulting the natural course of things; diffusing and diversifying by gentle means the streams of Commerce, but forcing nothing; establishing with Powers so disposed; in order to give trade a stable course.” —George Washington (http://PatriotPost.US/fqd/)

INSIGHT
“A liberal is a man who will give away everything he doesn’t own.” —Frank Dane

“The more help a person has in his garden, the less it belongs to him.” —William H. Davies

“Good government generally begins in the family, and if the moral character of a people once degenerate, their political character must soon follow.” —Elias Boudinot

“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” —Albert Einstein

“Be not too hasty to trust or admire the teachers of morality; they discourse like angels but they live like men.” —Dr. Samuel Johnson

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed, and hence clamorous to be led to safety, by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” —H.L. Mencken

UPRIGHT
“Washington, D.C. is a place where delusions go to thrive. That explains why Congress and the president are now agreed on remedies that will not work, expending money they do not have, to fix a problem that may not exist.” —Steve Chapman

“The fact that the market is not doing what we wish it would do is no reason to automatically assume that the government would do better.” —Thomas Sowell

“When the economy does not need a rescue plan and gets one, it’s called ‘campaign spending’. And this $150 billion stimulus package is nothing more than campaign spending on the part of both parties.” —Rush Limbaugh

“Some Democratic and Republican presidential hopefuls are preaching economic doom and gloom, disappearing middle class, and failing health care industry. What’s their solution? The short answer is give them more control over our lives.” —Walter Williams

“It is strange that the qualities we are looking for in a sitting president—thoughtful, calm, and serious—are exactly the qualities that we penalize in those running for president.” —Rich Galen

“Every candidate who repeats the misleading nonsense that ‘47 million in America have no health care,’ ought to be challenged with hard truth. The number is grossly inflated by including millions who are here illegally and millions of others who have the means to pay for health care insurance but refuse to adjust their budget and lifestyle. And don’t expect any media type to question where in the Constitution Congress derives any authority to dispense health care.” —Janet LaRue

EDITORIAL EXEGESIS
“We’re so used to Democrats pushing tax hikes as the answer to all of America’s problems that we were taken aback to find the following words buried in Pelosi’s release on the stimulus deal: ‘Economists estimate that each dollar of broad tax cuts leads to $1.26 in economic growth.’ Gee, that sort of sounds familiar. It’s almost, though not quite, like what the much-reviled supply-side economists have been saying for, oh, 30 years or so. Pelosi, and other Democrats now suddenly touting tax cuts, may be on to something. We might demur on the notion that all tax cuts must be ‘broad’ to be effective. Evidence really lies more strongly with giving tax cuts to those who would start new businesses or expand old ones. But it’s refreshing to hear a Democrat admit the obvious—that tax cuts work. It’s no secret that high tax rates act as a deadweight on the economy by creating absolute losses from which no one gains. Martin Feldstein, head of the National Bureau of Economic Research, estimates that a $1 tax hike costs the economy 76 cents in output. That explains why the economy jumps each time there’s a tax cut.” —Investor’s Business Daily

DEZINFORMATSIA
Backwards economics: “How do we stimulate the economy to prevent or shorten a recession? One way would be to repeal the Bush tax cuts two years early, in 2009.” —Len Burman, director of the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, writing in The New York Times

Star-struck and drooling: “He’s come from a white family and a black family, and he’s married to a black woman, and they’re cool people. They are really cool. They are Jack and Jackie Kennedy when you see them together. They are cool. And they’re great-looking, and they’re cool and they’re young, and they’re—everything seems to be great... [I]f you’re in [a room] with Obama, you feel the spirit. Moving.” —MSNBC’s Chris Matthews ++ “Are journalists rooting for the Obama story?” —CNN’s Howard Kurtz

Feminism on display: “It’s odd that the first woman with a shot at becoming president is so openly dependent on her husband to drag her over the finish line. She handed over South Carolina to him, knowing that her support here is largely derivative.” —New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd ++ “We all remember when your husband ran, he said two for the price of one. Is that what is happening again here?” —ABC’s Robin Roberts to Hillary

You’re joking, right?: “Hillary Clinton and John Edwards and Barack Obama are not raging liberals.” —former CNN anchor Catherine Crier

Terrorism apologist or news reporter?: “Murderous fanatic or hero of radical Islam? 50 year-old Osama bin Laden is an icon of intense hatred and profound reverence.” —NBC’s Ned Colt

That’s the spirit!: “So that there will be no misunderstanding, it’s time for all the presidential candidates to take a stand on pulling out of Iraq.” —Helen Thomas

Newspulper Headlines: Breaking News From 1988, 1992, 2000 and 2004: “Anti-Bush Campaign Planned” —Associated Press

Life Imitates the Onion: “After spending two months accompanying his wife, Hillary, on the campaign trail, former president Bill Clinton announced Monday that he is joining the 2008 presidential race, saying he ‘could no longer resist the urge.”’ —Onion ++ “In 1992 Bill Clinton vowed Americans would get ‘two for the price of one’ if they elected him with wife Hillary at his side. Now it is two against one as the Clintons gang up on Barack Obama in the Democratic presidential race.” —Reuters

Eminent Domain Run Amok: “State Officials Travel to China to Sell Georgia” —Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Of Course if They Are True, He’ll Never Admit It: “Singer Says Rumors That He Is Dead Aren’t True” —Times-Union (Jacksonville, FL)

Bottom Stories of the Day: “Nader to Decide on Presidential Run” —Newsmax.com (Thanks to The Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto)

THE DEMO-GOGUES
You call that civilized?: “[Hillary] and John McCain are very close. They always laugh that if they wound up being the nominees of their party, it would be the most civilized election in American history, and they’re afraid they’d put the voters to sleep because they like and respect each other.” —First Lady hopeful Bill Clinton

On the endorsement front: “I support Barack Obama because he doesn’t seek to perfect the politics of Swiftboating—he seeks to end it. This is personal for me, and for a whole lot of Americans who lived through the 2004 election. As a veteran, it disgusts me that the Swift Boats we loved while we were in uniform on the Mekong Delta have been rendered, in Karl Rove’s twisted politics, an ugly verb meaning to lie about someone’s character just to win an election.” —John Kerry

“With Barack Obama, we will turn the page on the old politics of misrepresentation and distortion. With Barack Obama, we will close the book on the old politics of race against race, gender against gender, ethnic group against ethnic group, and straight against gay... With Barack Obama, we will break the old gridlock and finally make health care what it should be in America—a fundamental right for all, not just an expensive privilege for the few. We will make the United States the great leader and not the great roadblock in the fateful fight against global warming. And with Barack Obama, we will end a war in Iraq that he has always stood against, that has cost us the lives of thousands of our sons and daughters, and that America never should have fought.” —Ted Kennedy endorsing Obama

Oh yeah, well shut up: “We’re all proud of the people we have endorsing us. At the end of the day, this is a contest not among our endorsers but among us as individuals. I believe that I have the experience we need to make the changes we need in America.” —Hillary, downplaying the Kennedys’ endorsements of Obama

Belly Laugh of the Week: “I don’t pay much attention to polls.” —Hillary Clinton, who in the next breath claimed that polls also show her ahead in “most of the Super Tuesday states.”

VILLAGE IDIOTS
This week’s “Quid Pro Homo” Award: “Gay men and women ought to have the same rights as heterosexual men and women—to make contracts, to have hospital visiting rights, to join together in marriage, and I don’t understand why it is considered by some people to be a threat to heterosexual marriage. Shouldn’t we be promoting the kind of faithfulness and loyalty to ones partner regardless of sexual orientation?” —Al Gore

Humor or truth?: “It’s like being with an Irish priest. You start to confess your sins. ‘Father Al, I am not just a noise polluter, I am a noise-polluting, diesel-soaking, gulfstream-flying rock star. I’m going to kick the habit. I’m trying father Al, but oil has been very good for me—those convoys of articulated lorries, petrochemical products, hair gel’.” —U2 lead singer Bono

Moonbat economics: “This is a big heist, this is a big heist. The right wing is in power, the bankers are screwing everyone—the oil companies, Halliburton—this is no f***ing mystery. These people have been after this. It started with Reagan crushing the poor, crushing the unions, rewarding people, putting them into heads of certain departments of the government and then disassembling those departments because they have contempt for the government.” —actor/“comedian” Richard Belzer

From one big mouth to another: “I think it’s time for [Bill Clinton] to just be quiet. I think it’s time for him to stop. As one of the most outspoken people in America, there’s a time to shut up, and I think that time has come.” —professional race hustler Al Sharpton

SHORT CUTS
“John McCain is Bob Dole minus the charm, conservatism and youth.” —Ann Coulter

“There’s losing. There’s losing honorably. And then there’s John Edwards.” —Charles Krauthammer

“Everyone seems to be campaigning as the candidate of change, but what does that mean exactly? Wouldn’t a depression be a change? How about basing our economy on Communism instead of Capitalism?” —John Hawkins

“Arnold Schwarzenegger warned of a huge budget deficit Friday. He may order ten percent spending cuts. He doesn’t want to go to Washington to ask for help because he’s afraid if he goes to Capitol Hill he’ll be dragged into a steroid hearing.” —Argus Hamilton

“Sometimes we become so accustomed to the way things are, we fail to notice how peculiar they happen to be. And for once, I’m not just referring to Clinton, Obama and Edwards.” —Burt Prelutsky

“It’s down to Obama vs. Clinton, and it’s getting nasty. They hate each other, with the kind of passionate hatred that you see only between two people who hold essentially the same positions on everything. Edwards is still running, but at this point they don’t even bother to put a microphone on him for the debates. He just waves his arms to indicate how he’s going to take on the big corporations.” —Dave Barry

David Letterman: From “Top Ten Barack Obama Campaign Promises presented by Senator Barack Obama”: I will double your tax money at the craps table; If you bring a gator to the White House, I’ll wrassle it; I’ll put Regis on the nickel; I’ll rename the tenth month of the year “Barack-tober”; I won’t let Apple release the new and improved iPod the day after you bought the previous model; Pronounce the word nuclear, “nuclear”; Three words: Vice President Oprah.

Jay Leno: Have you heard this story? They’re trying to pass a bill now that allows politicians to insist that they be addressed by gender-neutral titles. Is that really necessary? I mean, don’t we already have gender-neutral titles for politicians? “Crook,” “liar,” “adulterer,” “pinhead,” “moron” —these are all gender-neutral. ... The big issue in South Carolina was lost textile jobs. That’s why Hillary was so stunned that she came in a distant second. In fact, today she said, “I’ve been wearing all of these pantsuits for nothing.” ... Bill was really upset by her second place finish. In fact, he said, “Does this mean I don’t get a third term?” ... Exit polls showed that Bill’s campaigning actually hurt Hillary. I just hope it doesn’t cause any tension in their marriage. ... You can tell John Edwards is a little disappointed with his third place finish. In fact, for 1/millionth of a second, he actually stopped smiling. I don’t want to say that John Edwards seemed phony, but a lot of voters thought Hillary’s Southern accent was more real than his. ... Sylvester Stallone announced today he is endorsing John McCain. I think that’s what he said. He might have said, “Hand me my cane.”

Hillary the Movie - A Blog post dedicated to the truth about Hillary Clinton

During the primary season 16 years ago, I was very much influenced by the writings of various conservative commentators about the political scene. I subscribed to the Conservative Chronicle listened to Rush Limbaugh almost daily, and once in a while checked a conservative magazine out of the library.

This article His Cheatin' Heart by a then conservative David Brock in the American Spectator Magazine was the final information I needed to know that a Clinton Presidency was going to be a very very bad thing for the country.

Hillary Clinton wants to take the United States back to Old European Socialism.

While I have serious problems with that fact, more troubling to me is the fact that she and her husband are known felons, pathological liars, and have no morals. Because Mr. and Mrs. Clinton believe that they are a law unto themselves, they feel no need to live by any laws or uphold the rule of law in our society. The thought of someone like her holding her hand on the bible and vowing to defend the constitution just makes me sick to my stomach. Please continue reading and take the time to review the videos to see WHY I have such a problem with this woman being our president.

This post is a round up of controversies surrounding the release of the new movie Hillary the Movie, as well as articles, photos, and video to help educate my readers how disasterous it would be to have Madame Hillary as Commander in Chief of our armed forces and President of the United States of America.

Controversies around this movie:

The New York Times

QUOTE:

WASHINGTON (AP) — A conservative group must abide by campaign finance laws if it wants to run advertisements promoting its anti-Hillary Rodham Clinton movie, a federal court ruled Tuesday. The group, Citizens United, had hoped to run the television advertisements in key election states during peak primary season. The ruling means it must keep its commercials off the air or attach a disclaimer and disclose its donors. Lawyers for the group had argued that its 90-minute “Hillary: The Movie” was no different from documentaries seen on television news shows like “60 Minutes” and “Nova.” That prompted skepticism and, at one point, outright laughter from the judges at a hearing last week.

Human Events

QUOTE

"No matter how she tries to reconfigure herself for mainstream popular consumption, Americans must be reminded that Hillary Clinton, who rushed to kiss Mrs. Yassar Arafat, remains, deep down, the radical Lefty of the late 60s, the Wellesley graduate who acquired fame with her anti-American, anti-war graduation speech, hurling all the left wing clichés that have now become the parlance of the hate-Americans in Europe and in American academia. She is as fit to be President of the United States as is Jane Fonda."

Washtington Times

QUOTE:

"When liberals like Michael Moore and Al Gore make documentaries, they're on Leno, Letterman, Oprah, "60 Minutes," etc., and the premieres are red-carpet affairs at Hollywood, Sundance, Cannes, etc.

The Washington DC premiere of "Hillary: The Movie" is at a multiplex in Georgetown, and they're not even allowed to advertise:
A legal battle over advertisements for a new documentary about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton illustrates the folly of current campaign-finance laws, says the attorney for the producers of the film, which premieres tonight in Washington."

"Well, it looks as though among the twenty television DVDs slated for nationwide release on Sept. 11, your film, The Path to 9/11, is not one of them. It couldn’t possibly be that your $40-million, five-hour ABC miniseries, which has received seven Emmy nominations and attracted an audience of 25 million people, has no interest. It definitely has more interest than a lot of the garbage on DVD shelves. What is happening here do you think?"

Nowrasteh:

"I’ve been told by a top Disney/ABC exec that “if Hillary weren’t running for President this wouldn’t be a problem”, meaning the DVD would be out. This is to appease the Clintons, plain and simple."

QUOTE:

"Juanita Broaddrick: “I really don’t have an answer for that except to say I remember the approximate time of year. I probably should remember the date, although it’s something I wanted to forget.”
So NBC News tried to figure out the date of the alleged assault.
Broaddrick gave us access to all the business and personal records she says she could find. We also checked public records, nursing home records and convention schedules.
And indeed there was a nursing home meeting at the Camelot Hotel in Little Rock on April 25, 1978. Further, state records show Broaddrick got credit for a nursing home seminar that was held that day, April 25.

So was Bill Clinton even in Little Rock on April 25, 1978? Despite our repeated requests, the White House would not answer that question and declined to release any information about his schedule.

So we checked 45 Arkansas newspapers and talked to a dozen former Clinton staffers. We found no evidence that Clinton had any public appearances on the morning in question. Articles in Arkansas newspapers suggest he was in Little Rock that day."

Huffington Post: Clinton, I am NOT a Lesbian

The Advocate Online: The object of our affection

QUOTE:

If she wasn’t aware of the speculation then, she surely heard about it when author Edward Klein brought it to the surface in his 2005 smear job The Truth About Hillary, in which he dubiously asserted that “the culture of lesbianism has influenced Hillary’s political goals and personal life since she was a student at Wellesley.”

No one is ever courteous enough to ask Clinton directly how she feels about the lesbian chatter. So I do.

“People say a lot of things about me, so I really don’t pay any attention to it,” she responds. “It’s not true, but it is something that I have no control over. People will say what they want to say.”

Front Page Magazine: Why The Clintons Belong in Prison

FP:

You state that Hillary is probably the "dirtiest person" in the history of American politics. Why do you say this?

Green:

"Hillary is all about herself and the acquisition of power by destroying anyone who gets in her way. To say that she has ice in her veins is an understatement. There are countless incidents in my book which document her contemptuous attitude toward the Secret Service, the military, and the Arkansas State Police. She would often use the vilest form of profanity while addressing her co-workers. And Hillary loves to use dirty tricks in politics. She makes the Nixon Watergate team look like choirboys. Hillary is more of a man than Bill ever was."

FP:

When you say that Hillary is all about the acquisition of power, then can we presume that that is what her marriage to Clinton is all about? Is that why she never really cared about all his affairs? In other words, she was only concerned if he got caught but didn’t really care about the matters of the heart?

Green:

The Clinton marriage was just a business deal. I believe that Hillary has had her eyes set on the White House ever since Bill first became Governor of Arkansas- back in 1978.

It is common knowledge that Hillary is bi-sexual. According to Bill's long-time ex-girlfriend Gennifer Flowers, Hillary enjoyed performing oral sex on other women.

On p.41 of Flowers' autobiography "Passion and Betrayal", Gennifer asked Bill if there was any truth to the rumor that Hillary was having an affair with another woman. Bill laughed and said (referring to Hillary): "Honey - she's probably eaten more p---y than I have."

What upset Hillary is not that Bill messed around. What upset her is that he got caught so many times."

Bill Clinton, His Life, This documentary is hosted completely on my blog. Just click on the link to see the whole movie. This final clip, #12, contains a partial list of people murdered by the Clintons and their hit men.

"This documentary, entitled Bill Clinton: His Life, came out in 2004, right about the same time as the autobiography, Bill Clinton: My Life. It takes a good, hard look at the dirty dealings of both Bill and Hillary Clinton but, for some reason never achieved the popularity of Michael Moore's fantasy film, Fahrenheit 911. This movie has been thoroughly suppressed by our left-wing media to the point that it's not listed on IMDb, nor can you find anything about it through a Google search. Hopefully that will change now that it's been made available on YouTube.
Watch and learn how the Clintons turned the White House into a headquarters for organized crime, communist spying and murder, all while the Clinton-friendly media kept the public distracted by focusing on a few of Slick Willy's petty sexual encounters."

NYT: ABC new show will go on despite protest by Doctors

Pediatricians protest autism/vaccine link in new television show.

"ABC said on Monday it would include a disclaimer about the plot line of the debut episode of the drama “Eli Stone,” which links childhood vaccines to autism, and direct viewers to a government Web site that discredits such a link.

ABC’s decision follows a call by the American Academy of Pediatrics for ABC to cancel the opening episode of “Eli Stone,” which is scheduled to be broadcast at 10 p.m. Thursday.
In a letter to ABC executives on Friday, Dr. Renee R. Jenkins, the president of the pediatrics academy, warned that the episode “could lead to a tragic decline in immunization rates.” The first episode portrays a lawyer who wins a case against a drug company on behalf of a mother who believes that a preservative in a vaccine caused her child’s autism."

And how would Dr. Jenkins pay for her pediatric practice if she did not have the money from vaccines rolling in every day? Vaccines are the bread and butter of pediatrics. And if Vaccines and Antibiotics are rejected by parents...what is a busy doctor with bills to pay supposed to do???

I have not vaccinated any of our five children, and guess what? None of them are autistic.

American Academy of Pediatrics Unleashes Hysterical Attack on Fictional Television Show about Vaccine / Autism Link

Natural News

A Surveillance Society Works Both Ways (comic)

(Used with Permission)

(NaturalNews) "The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has gone ballistic over a fictional television program airing on ABC that shows a family successfully suing a vaccine manufacturer for their child's autism. Not satisfied to push dangerous vaccines onto children in the real world, the AAP now feels it must also control the thoughts and ideas of people living in fictional worlds by pressuring television networks to censor their programming. Only television shows that conform to the pro-chemical, pro-pharmaceutical, pro-vaccine point of view will be tolerated by the AAP, it seems.

A letter signed by AAP President Renee Jenkins warns ABC that it will "will bear responsibility for the needless suffering and potential deaths of children from parents' decisions not to immunize based on the content of the episode." This is tantamount to saying that ABC's television program will kill children! The AAP letter goes on to state the usual conventional medicine propaganda line that there is "no evidence" of any link between vaccines and autism.

Of course, that's only true if you limit your "evidence" to whatever dogmatic beliefs are currently being circulated in the minds of the promoters of western medicine. To these doctors, there's no such thing as a dangerous injection, drug or synthetic chemical! It's all safe for children: Mercury fillings, chemical fluoridation of water supplies, 37 different vaccine injections, antibacterial soap in children's toothpaste... need I go on? The American Academy of Pediatrics seemingly hasn't met a corporate-sponsored chemical it didn't like.

Why the AAP has no credibility

This is the same association, you have to remember, that pushes ADHD drugs like Ritalin onto children. Children who show "symptoms" of ADHD (a fictitious disease invented by the drug companies) should not be treated with nutrition, according to the AAP. They should be treated with amphetamines that used to be sold on the street as "speed." (ADHD drugs are amphetamines.) Is this a children's health organization that parents should really trust?

Consider this: The 2002 cover of the American Academy of Pediatrics breastfeeding guide featured the name and logo of Ross Products, the company that makes Similac, the top-selling brand of infant formula. I recently picked up a bottle of Similac "Go & Grow" formula. The front of the product claims, "Balanced nutrition for older babies. Improved formula!" I checked the back of the product and was shocked to see the ingredients, which listed the following as the first five ingredients:

42.6% corn syrup solids, 14.7% soy protein isolate, 11.5% high oleic safflower oil, 10.1% sugar (sucrose) and 8.4% soy oil

That's over 50% sugar! Don't believe these ingredients? I took a picture to prove it: http://www.naturalnews.com/gallery/articles/similacingredients.jpg

Let me go on the record right here, right now, and say that any doctor or medical organization that recommends a diet of corn syrup, soy protein, sugar and cheap oils to an infant should be arrested for malpractice. To think that the American Academy of Pediatrics actually promoted this company tells you everything you need to know about the AAP. The organization, in my opinion, is a disgrace to medicine. Its remarkable lack of nutritional knowledge demonstrates the organization's complete lack of credibility when it comes to talking about children's health. In my opinion, the AAP is nothing more than a Big Business front group that pushes junk infant formula products and dangerous medicines onto unsuspecting parents and children.

But intelligent parents know better. Reasonably-minded persons are increasingly questioning the sanity of injecting children with vaccines containing mercury preservatives, and they're tired of being lied to by drug companies, the FDA and medical "front groups" that are really nothing more than propaganda organizations for Big Pharma. Did you know that the entire medical community calls vaccines "mercury free" even when they still contain trace amounts of mercury? It's just one of many lies told to the public about vaccines.

The links between vaccines and autism is real

As anyone who has been paying attention already knows, autism rates have skyrocketed in direct correlation with the rise in vaccines. Take any nation in the world, and you'll find that autism rates are near-perfectly correlated with vaccine rates. The conventional medical community acknowledges that autism rates are extremely high in the United States among those children who are vaccinated, but they insist there's "no proof" of any causal link between the two.

Sure there isn't. They're not looking for any. It's like asking Big Tobacco to find proof that cigarette smoke causes lung cancer and heart disease. The idea that vaccines might be unsafe goes against their whole distorted belief system of pushing more and more injections onto infants and children -- all while enriching the profits of powerful drug companies. You, the consumer, are not supposed to pay attention to the inconvenient truths that children are being killed by vaccine shots. Two more young girls just died last week after receiving the Gardasil HPV Vaccine shots, and the body count will continue to rise as long as children are subjected to these radically unsafe substances.

The reason the AAP has so viciously attacked ABC for airing a fictional television show on this topic is because the AAP recognizes the danger in inviting parents to wake up and start asking commonsense questions about the safety of vaccines. If there's one thing conventional medicine absolutely does not want to see, it's a mass revolt against the synthetic chemicals that pay their salaries and keep them in power. Just like any dynasty that exercises control over its population, the AAP doesn't want the commoners questioning the King. In fact, the peasants cannot even be allowed to read, view or think thoughts that might question the declarations of the King.

But the truth, of course, is that the Emperor has no clothes. The pro-vaccine push is more about pseudoscientific marketing than scientific medicine. It's about corralling people into a belief system, not about actually saving their lives. Any intelligent review of the literature on the safety of vaccines and the history of modern civilization will reveal, for example, that the sharp drop in infant mortality over the last one hundred years was due almost entirely to public health measures (better hygiene, better sewer systems, cleaner water, etc.). The vaccine-pushing industry would love to take credit for these improvements, but they really just stem from basic improvements in the hygiene practices of the nation.

How vaccines harm children -- even when they work!

The vaccine-pushing doctors in this country would also like to take credit for "saving the lives of children" by protecting them from diseases like the measles, mumps and chicken pox. And yet, even here their logic is flawed: Vaccinating children against these non-fatal diseases actually weakens the immune system, denying it the ability to expand its function via an adaptive response to the chicken pox, for example. Vaccines actually impair future immune function, causing that child to be increasingly susceptible to future infectious diseases. A truly healthy child is one whose health is supported through wise nutritional therapies and is exposed to the live chicken pox virus. After a few days of uncomfortable symptoms, the immune system "learns" to overcome the infection, and by doing so, it expands its ability to more strongly protect the body from future infections.

Vaccines deny the child this experience, handing them a dead chicken pox virus combined with a stew of toxic chemicals. The result? An immune system that learns very little. It's like giving a child the answers to a math test before he takes the test, and then declaring him to be a brilliant math student when he gets an "A".

Pharmaceutical-trained physicians don't understand (or even acknowledge) the important role of the immune system in experiencing and overcoming infectious disease, and they think that all health must be accomplished through intervention. Essentially, modern doctors don't trust Mother Nature, and they have no faith in the ability of the body to keep itself healthy. They do trust, however, in Big Pharma's chemicals, and they believe that virtually no chemical is too dangerous to inject or implant into the bodies of children.

Notice, for example, that most pediatricians don't even speak out against the toxic mercury used in dental fillings? To them, mercury is perfectly safe to put into the mouths of children. So why on Earth would we expect these people to be alarmed over mercury being injected into the bodies of those same children?

Vaccine-pushing pediatricians are a threat to the health of children

Conventionally-trained pediatricians, it's sad to say, are the real threat to the health and safety of our children. While they're the ones blaming ABC for airing a television show, the truth is that they are the ones directly responsible for the deaths and suffering of countless children and families. The brand of scientifically-retarded medicine practiced by modern pediatricians today is solely based on financial motivations and power struggles (as in, who controls the health of the population). For every vaccine shot given to an innocent child, there's a profit. And the reason the industry is attacking ABC over this television program is because every shot that's avoided is a loss of that profit. This is about money, not public health. Want proof? Consider this:

What do you think would be happening today if an herb (instead of a vaccine) taken by millions of children was correlated with a huge rise in autism? The "scientific" community would be all over that herb, airing accusations of toxicity, calling for its ban, and the FDA would no doubt immediately ban the herb and criminalize anyone importing it or selling it. But what happens when it's a vaccine instead? The medical community defends it, insists there's no evidence of harm, and attempts to censor television shows while pushing its propaganda to the hilt.

Do you see the double standard at work in conventional medicine today? It stems from the unstated assumptions of our "drugs and surgery" system of medicine today: That all natural medicines are dangerous unless proven safe, and all drugs are safe unless proven dangerous.

Vaccines, then, are safe until someone proves them dangerous (at least according to those docs who keep pushing them). And nobody from the conventional world of medicine is really looking for hard for evidence of their danger. Furthermore, if someone from outside the realm of conventional medicine finds evidence of the harm of vaccines, their evidence will be rejected on the grounds that those people aren't part of the "recognized medical community." This is how these medical types circle the intellectual wagons and protect the status quo while rejecting any new evidence that goes against whatever "scientific" positions they've already announced are true.

The safety of vaccines cannot be questioned -- EVER! -- because the system of medicine practiced today depends on those vaccines as its primary myth-carrier. What myth is that? The myth that human health requires chemical intervention, and only specially trained doctors are smart enough to know what the body really needs. Mother Nature is an idiot, these doctors think, and they're determined to inject every child in the world with dangerous substances just to prove themselves right.

The arrogance is nothing short of astonishing.

The arrest and prosecution of vaccine pushers

Ultimately, when today's system of conventional medicine collapses after bankrupting this nation, I will be one of the first to publicly call for the mass arrest and prosecution of the criminal doctors who have committed these crimes against our children. The number of human beings they have harmed and killed with their medicine is nothing less than a chemical holocaust -- a crime against humanity that should be treated accordingly.

This prosecution action is not about revenge against those individuals, but rather about making sure society learns this important lesson about what happens when you turn over children's health to a for-profit system of medicine run by powerful corporations. It is important that the People rise up against this destructive class of medical aristocrats and strip them of their professional licenses, denying them the ability to harm other children. Because if we have to choose between protecting our children vs. protecting the egos of the doctors, I will choose our children every time.

Perhaps a future ABC show will feature a much larger court case involving class action lawsuits against pediatricians who have, through their arrogance and ignorance, poisoned an entire generation of children and caused irreversible neurological harm to tens of millions of innocents. I don't watch television, but I definitely wouldn't want to miss that show.

By the way, in support of this article, I have included (below) a list of selected quotes about vaccines and autism, including a quote from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. who investigated the U.S. government's collusion with Big Pharma in covering up the truth about vaccines:

"There's no doubt in my mind that maybe two years from now or five years from now or ten years from now, we are going to find out what we know intuitively, that thimerosal, the mercury in the vaccines, absolutely causes autism and other learning disabilities." -- Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Studies of autistic children have frequently shown very high levels of mercury, with no other source but vaccines found for the exposure. These levels are equal to those seen in adults during toxic industrial exposures. Several autism clinics have found dramatic improvements in the behavior and social interactions in children from whom the mercury was chelated. Results depended on how soon the mercury was removed following exposure, but permanent damage can be caused if the metal is not chelated soon enough.
- Russell L. Blaylock, M.D., Health and Nutrition Secrets (Health Press, 2006)

Since the 1990s, there has been a tenfold or 1000-percent increase in autism, an increase which has been linked by some researchers to the organic mercury preservative commonly found in baby vaccines. A greatly increased incidence of juvenile diabetes has been correlated to specific vaccination sequences and to the number of vaccines given. In some Australian Aboriginal communities, every second child died shortly after vaccination.
- Walter Last, The Natural Way to Heal: 65 Ways to Create Superior Health (Hampton Roads Publishing Company, 2003)

The first reported case of autism occurred after thimerosal, a preservative for immunizations, was added to vaccines. Since then, the incidence of autism has increased at an alarming rate. Thimerosal is not a necessary additive and is toxic to the human body, yet it has been used for years. And although thimerosal has been phased out of childhood vaccines, the vast majority of flu shots given to children and adults still contain it, and it is believed that many pediatricians are still using unexpired vials of thimerosal-containing vaccines.
- KC Craichy, Super Health 7 Golden Keys to Unlock Lifelong Vitality (Bronze Bow Publishing, 2005)

Alan Cohen, an environmental physician from Connecticut, notes that high levels of autism and attention deficit disorder (ADD) did not occur until the mandatory use of childhood vaccinations, and suggests that there may be a connection between certain vaccines and the onset of these conditions. Antibiotic overuse can lead to an inability to properly digest nutrients, known as malabsorption syndrome. What happens is that antibiotics destroy healthy bacteria in the gut, with a concomitant proliferation of yeast.
- Gary Null, Ph.D., The Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing: A Comprehensive A-Z Listing of Common and Chronic Illnesses and Their Proven Natural Treatments (Bottom Line Books, 2001)

At the same time, the amount of mercury-laced vaccines, which have been proven to produce autism and other learning disabilities, was dramatically increased. Schools were given $500 per month per child that was on Ritalin®, Prozac, or some other psychiatric prescribed drug. The combination of taking phonics out of the schools together with increasing the amount of drugs being forced on our children created a dumbing down and demotivating of our youth. This produces a less intelligent, less motivated populace much more susceptible to advertising campaigns produced by drug companies and fast food companies.
- Kevin Trudeau, More Natural Cures Revealed: Previously Censored Brand Name Products That Cure Disease (Alliance Publishing Group, Inc., 2006)

Some believe that the mercury compound used in some vaccines is to blame. In addition, there is often a history of frequent ear infections with much antibiotic use. Some believe that an overuse of antibiotics has killed off the friendly intestinal bacteria, leaving the gut vulnerable to the antibiotic-resistant, neurotoxin-producing bacterium Clostridium.- Phyllis A. Balch, CNC, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, 4th Edition: A Practical A-to-Z Reference to Drug-Free Remedies Using Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Food Supplements (AVERY, 2006)

Another challenge is convincing parents of the importance of vaccines. A 1998 article cited studies of 12 children who had pervasive developmental disorder, primarily autism. The parents and doctors of eight of the children said this began after they received the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much. Mr. Speaker, Vice President Cheney, members of Congress, distinguished guests, fellow citizens: As we gather tonight, our nation is at war, our economy is in recession, and the civilized world faces unprecedented dangers. Yet the state of our Union has never been stronger. (Applause.)

We last met in an hour of shock and suffering. In four short months, our nation has comforted the victims, begun to rebuild New York and the Pentagon, rallied a great coalition, captured, arrested, and rid the world of thousands of terrorists, destroyed Afghanistan's terrorist training camps, saved a people from starvation, and freed a country from brutal oppression. (Applause.)

The American flag flies again over our embassy in Kabul. Terrorists who once occupied Afghanistan now occupy cells at Guantanamo Bay. (Applause.) And terrorist leaders who urged followers to sacrifice their lives are running for their own. (Applause.)

America and Afghanistan are now allies against terror. We'll be partners in rebuilding that country. And this evening we welcome the distinguished interim leader of a liberated Afghanistan: Chairman Hamid Karzai. (Applause.)

The last time we met in this chamber, the mothers and daughters of Afghanistan were captives in their own homes, forbidden from working or going to school. Today women are free, and are part of Afghanistan's new government. And we welcome the new Minister of Women's Affairs, Doctor Sima Samar. (Applause.)

Our progress is a tribute to the spirit of the Afghan people, to the resolve of our coalition, and to the might of the United States military. (Applause.) When I called our troops into action, I did so with complete confidence in their courage and skill. And tonight, thanks to them, we are winning the war on terror. (Applause.) The man and women of our Armed Forces have delivered a message now clear to every enemy of the United States: Even 7,000 miles away, across oceans and continents, on mountaintops and in caves -- you will not escape the justice of this nation. (Applause.)

For many Americans, these four months have brought sorrow, and pain that will never completely go away. Every day a retired firefighter returns to Ground Zero, to feel closer to his two sons who died there. At a memorial in New York, a little boy left his football with a note for his lost father: Dear Daddy, please take this to heaven. I don't want to play football until I can play with you again some day.

Last month, at the grave of her husband, Michael, a CIA officer and Marine who died in Mazur-e-Sharif, Shannon Spann said these words of farewell: "Semper Fi, my love." Shannon is with us tonight. (Applause.)

Shannon, I assure you and all who have lost a loved one that our cause is just, and our country will never forget the debt we owe Michael and all who gave their lives for freedom.

Our cause is just, and it continues. Our discoveries in Afghanistan confirmed our worst fears, and showed us the true scope of the task ahead. We have seen the depth of our enemies' hatred in videos, where they laugh about the loss of innocent life. And the depth of their hatred is equaled by the madness of the destruction they design. We have found diagrams of American nuclear power plants and public water facilities, detailed instructions for making chemical weapons, surveillance maps of American cities, and thorough descriptions of landmarks in America and throughout the world.

What we have found in Afghanistan confirms that, far from ending there, our war against terror is only beginning. Most of the 19 men who hijacked planes on September the 11th were trained in Afghanistan's camps, and so were tens of thousands of others. Thousands of dangerous killers, schooled in the methods of murder, often supported by outlaw regimes, are now spread throughout the world like ticking time bombs, set to go off without warning.

Thanks to the work of our law enforcement officials and coalition partners, hundreds of terrorists have been arrested. Yet, tens of thousands of trained terrorists are still at large. These enemies view the entire world as a battlefield, and we must pursue them wherever they are. (Applause.) So long as training camps operate, so long as nations harbor terrorists, freedom is at risk. And America and our allies must not, and will not, allow it. (Applause.)

Our nation will continue to be steadfast and patient and persistent in the pursuit of two great objectives. First, we will shut down terrorist camps, disrupt terrorist plans, and bring terrorists to justice. And, second, we must prevent the terrorists and regimes who seek chemical, biological or nuclear weapons from threatening the United States and the world. (Applause.)

Our military has put the terror training camps of Afghanistan out of business, yet camps still exist in at least a dozen countries. A terrorist underworld -- including groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, Jaish-i-Mohammed -- operates in remote jungles and deserts, and hides in the centers of large cities.

While the most visible military action is in Afghanistan, America is acting elsewhere. We now have troops in the Philippines, helping to train that country's armed forces to go after terrorist cells that have executed an American, and still hold hostages. Our soldiers, working with the Bosnian government, seized terrorists who were plotting to bomb our embassy. Our Navy is patrolling the coast of Africa to block the shipment of weapons and the establishment of terrorist camps in Somalia.

My hope is that all nations will heed our call, and eliminate the terrorist parasites who threaten their countries and our own. Many nations are acting forcefully. Pakistan is now cracking down on terror, and I admire the strong leadership of President Musharraf. (Applause.)

But some governments will be timid in the face of terror. And make no mistake about it: If they do not act, America will. (Applause.)

Our second goal is to prevent regimes that sponsor terror from threatening America or our friends and allies with weapons of mass destruction. Some of these regimes have been pretty quiet since September the 11th. But we know their true nature. North Korea is a regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens.

Iran aggressively pursues these weapons and exports terror, while an unelected few repress the Iranian people's hope for freedom.

Iraq continues to flaunt its hostility toward America and to support terror. The Iraqi regime has plotted to develop anthrax, and nerve gas, and nuclear weapons for over a decade. This is a regime that has already used poison gas to murder thousands of its own citizens -- leaving the bodies of mothers huddled over their dead children. This is a regime that agreed to international inspections -- then kicked out the inspectors. This is a regime that has something to hide from the civilized world.

States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world. By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger. They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred. They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States. In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.

We will work closely with our coalition to deny terrorists and their state sponsors the materials, technology, and expertise to make and deliver weapons of mass destruction. We will develop and deploy effective missile defenses to protect America and our allies from sudden attack. (Applause.) And all nations should know: America will do what is necessary to ensure our nation's security.

We'll be deliberate, yet time is not on our side. I will not wait on events, while dangers gather. I will not stand by, as peril draws closer and closer. The United States of America will not permit the world's most dangerous regimes to threaten us with the world's most destructive weapons. (Applause.)

Our war on terror is well begun, but it is only begun. This campaign may not be finished on our watch -- yet it must be and it will be waged on our watch.

We can't stop short. If we stop now -- leaving terror camps intact and terror states unchecked -- our sense of security would be false and temporary. History has called America and our allies to action, and it is both our responsibility and our privilege to fight freedom's fight. (Applause.)

Our first priority must always be the security of our nation, and that will be reflected in the budget I send to Congress. My budget supports three great goals for America: We will win this war; we'll protect our homeland; and we will revive our economy.

September the 11th brought out the best in America, and the best in this Congress. And I join the American people in applauding your unity and resolve. (Applause.) Now Americans deserve to have this same spirit directed toward addressing problems here at home. I'm a proud member of my party -- yet as we act to win the war, protect our people, and create jobs in America, we must act, first and foremost, not as Republicans, not as Democrats, but as Americans. (Applause.)

It costs a lot to fight this war. We have spent more than a billion dollars a month -- over $30 million a day -- and we must be prepared for future operations. Afghanistan proved that expensive precision weapons defeat the enemy and spare innocent lives, and we need more of them. We need to replace aging aircraft and make our military more agile, to put our troops anywhere in the world quickly and safely. Our men and women in uniform deserve the best weapons, the best equipment, the best training -- and they also deserve another pay raise. (Applause.)

My budget includes the largest increase in defense spending in two decades -- because while the price of freedom and security is high, it is never too high. Whatever it costs to defend our country, we will pay. (Applause.)

The next priority of my budget is to do everything possible to protect our citizens and strengthen our nation against the ongoing threat of another attack. Time and distance from the events of September the 11th will not make us safer unless we act on its lessons. America is no longer protected by vast oceans. We are protected from attack only by vigorous action abroad, and increased vigilance at home.

My budget nearly doubles funding for a sustained strategy of homeland security, focused on four key areas: bioterrorism, emergency response, airport and border security, and improved intelligence. We will develop vaccines to fight anthrax and other deadly diseases. We'll increase funding to help states and communities train and equip our heroic police and firefighters. (Applause.) We will improve intelligence collection and sharing, expand patrols at our borders, strengthen the security of air travel, and use technology to track the arrivals and departures of visitors to the United States. (Applause.)

Homeland security will make America not only stronger, but, in many ways, better. Knowledge gained from bioterrorism research will improve public health. Stronger police and fire departments will mean safer neighborhoods. Stricter border enforcement will help combat illegal drugs. (Applause.) And as government works to better secure our homeland, America will continue to depend on the eyes and ears of alert citizens.

A few days before Christmas, an airline flight attendant spotted a passenger lighting a match. The crew and passengers quickly subdued the man, who had been trained by al Qaeda and was armed with explosives. The people on that plane were alert and, as a result, likely saved nearly 200 lives. And tonight we welcome and thank flight attendants Hermis Moutardier and Christina Jones. (Applause.)

Once we have funded our national security and our homeland security, the final great priority of my budget is economic security for the American people. (Applause.) To achieve these great national objectives -- to win the war, protect the homeland, and revitalize our economy -- our budget will run a deficit that will be small and short-term, so long as Congress restrains spending and acts in a fiscally responsible manner. (Applause.) We have clear priorities and we must act at home with the same purpose and resolve we have shown overseas: We'll prevail in the war, and we will defeat this recession. (Applause.)

Americans who have lost their jobs need our help and I support extending unemployment benefits and direct assistance for health care coverage. (Applause.) Yet, American workers want more than unemployment checks -- they want a steady paycheck. (Applause.) When America works, America prospers, so my economic security plan can be summed up in one word: jobs. (Applause.)

Good jobs begin with good schools, and here we've made a fine start. (Applause.) Republicans and Democrats worked together to achieve historic education reform so that no child is left behind. I was proud to work with members of both parties: Chairman John Boehner and Congressman George Miller. (Applause.) Senator Judd Gregg. (Applause.) And I was so proud of our work, I even had nice things to say about my friend, Ted Kennedy. (Laughter and applause.) I know the folks at the Crawford coffee shop couldn't believe I'd say such a thing -- (laughter) -- but our work on this bill shows what is possible if we set aside posturing and focus on results. (Applause.)

There is more to do. We need to prepare our children to read and succeed in school with improved Head Start and early childhood development programs. (Applause.) We must upgrade our teacher colleges and teacher training and launch a major recruiting drive with a great goal for America: a quality teacher in every classroom. (Applause.)

Good jobs also depend on reliable and affordable energy. This Congress must act to encourage conservation, promote technology, build infrastructure, and it must act to increase energy production at home so America is less dependent on foreign oil. (Applause.)

Good jobs depend on expanded trade. Selling into new markets creates new jobs, so I ask Congress to finally approve trade promotion authority. (Applause.) On these two key issues, trade and energy, the House of Representatives has acted to create jobs, and I urge the Senate to pass this legislation. (Applause.)

Good jobs depend on sound tax policy. (Applause.) Last year, some in this hall thought my tax relief plan was too small; some thought it was too big. (Applause.) But when the checks arrived in the mail, most Americans thought tax relief was just about right. (Applause.) Congress listened to the people and responded by reducing tax rates, doubling the child credit, and ending the death tax. For the sake of long-term growth and to help Americans plan for the future, let's make these tax cuts permanent. (Applause.)

The way out of this recession, the way to create jobs, is to grow the economy by encouraging investment in factories and equipment, and by speeding up tax relief so people have more money to spend. For the sake of American workers, let's pass a stimulus package. (Applause.)

Good jobs must be the aim of welfare reform. As we reauthorize these important reforms, we must always remember the goal is to reduce dependency on government and offer every American the dignity of a job. (Applause.)

Americans know economic security can vanish in an instant without health security. I ask Congress to join me this year to enact a patients' bill of rights -- (applause) -- to give uninsured workers credits to help buy health coverage -- (applause) -- to approve an historic increase in the spending for veterans' health -- (applause) -- and to give seniors a sound and modern Medicare system that includes coverage for prescription drugs. (Applause.)

A good job should lead to security in retirement. I ask Congress to enact new safeguards for 401K and pension plans. (Applause.) Employees who have worked hard and saved all their lives should not have to risk losing everything if their company fails. (Applause.) Through stricter accounting standards and tougher disclosure requirements, corporate America must be made more accountable to employees and shareholders and held to the highest standards of conduct. (Applause.)

Retirement security also depends upon keeping the commitments of Social Security, and we will. We must make Social Security financially stable and allow personal retirement accounts for younger workers who choose them. (Applause.)

Members, you and I will work together in the months ahead on other issues: productive farm policy -- (applause) -- a cleaner environment -- (applause) -- broader home ownership, especially among minorities -- (applause) -- and ways to encourage the good work of charities and faith-based groups. (Applause.) I ask you to join me on these important domestic issues in the same spirit of cooperation we've applied to our war against terrorism. (Applause.)

During these last few months, I've been humbled and privileged to see the true character of this country in a time of testing. Our enemies believed America was weak and materialistic, that we would splinter in fear and selfishness. They were as wrong as they are evil. (Applause.)

The American people have responded magnificently, with courage and compassion, strength and resolve. As I have met the heroes, hugged the families, and looked into the tired faces of rescuers, I have stood in awe of the American people.

And I hope you will join me -- I hope you will join me in expressing thanks to one American for the strength and calm and comfort she brings to our nation in crisis, our First Lady, Laura Bush. (Applause.)

None of us would ever wish the evil that was done on September the 11th. Yet after America was attacked, it was as if our entire country looked into a mirror and saw our better selves. We were reminded that we are citizens, with obligations to each other, to our country, and to history. We began to think less of the goods we can accumulate, and more about the good we can do.

For too long our culture has said, "If it feels good, do it." Now America is embracing a new ethic and a new creed: "Let's roll." (Applause.) In the sacrifice of soldiers, the fierce brotherhood of firefighters, and the bravery and generosity of ordinary citizens, we have glimpsed what a new culture of responsibility could look like. We want to be a nation that serves goals larger than self. We've been offered a unique opportunity, and we must not let this moment pass. (Applause.)

My call tonight is for every American to commit at least two years -- 4,000 hours over the rest of your lifetime -- to the service of your neighbors and your nation. (Applause.) Many are already serving, and I thank you. If you aren't sure how to help, I've got a good place to start. To sustain and extend the best that has emerged in America, I invite you to join the new USA Freedom Corps. The Freedom Corps will focus on three areas of need: responding in case of crisis at home; rebuilding our communities; and extending American compassion throughout the world.

One purpose of the USA Freedom Corps will be homeland security. America needs retired doctors and nurses who can be mobilized in major emergencies; volunteers to help police and fire departments; transportation and utility workers well-trained in spotting danger.

Our country also needs citizens working to rebuild our communities. We need mentors to love children, especially children whose parents are in prison. And we need more talented teachers in troubled schools. USA Freedom Corps will expand and improve the good efforts of AmeriCorps and Senior Corps to recruit more than 200,000 new volunteers.

And America needs citizens to extend the compassion of our country to every part of the world. So we will renew the promise of the Peace Corps, double its volunteers over the next five years -- (applause) -- and ask it to join a new effort to encourage development and education and opportunity in the Islamic world. (Applause.)

This time of adversity offers a unique moment of opportunity -- a moment we must seize to change our culture. Through the gathering momentum of millions of acts of service and decency and kindness, I know we can overcome evil with greater good. (Applause.) And we have a great opportunity during this time of war to lead the world toward the values that will bring lasting peace.

All fathers and mothers, in all societies, want their children to be educated, and live free from poverty and violence. No people on Earth yearn to be oppressed, or aspire to servitude, or eagerly await the midnight knock of the secret police.

If anyone doubts this, let them look to Afghanistan, where the Islamic "street" greeted the fall of tyranny with song and celebration. Let the skeptics look to Islam's own rich history, with its centuries of learning, and tolerance and progress. America will lead by defending liberty and justice because they are right and true and unchanging for all people everywhere. (Applause.)

No nation owns these aspirations, and no nation is exempt from them. We have no intention of imposing our culture. But America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity: the rule of law; limits on the power of the state; respect for women; private property; free speech; equal justice; and religious tolerance. (Applause.)

America will take the side of brave men and women who advocate these values around the world, including the Islamic world, because we have a greater objective than eliminating threats and containing resentment. We seek a just and peaceful world beyond the war on terror.

In this moment of opportunity, a common danger is erasing old rivalries. America is working with Russia and China and India, in ways we have never before, to achieve peace and prosperity. In every region, free markets and free trade and free societies are proving their power to lift lives. Together with friends and allies from Europe to Asia, and Africa to Latin America, we will demonstrate that the forces of terror cannot stop the momentum of freedom. (Applause.)

The last time I spoke here, I expressed the hope that life would return to normal. In some ways, it has. In others, it never will. Those of us who have lived through these challenging times have been changed by them. We've come to know truths that we will never question: evil is real, and it must be opposed. (Applause.) Beyond all differences of race or creed, we are one country, mourning together and facing danger together. Deep in the American character, there is honor, and it is stronger than cynicism. And many have discovered again that even in tragedy -- especially in tragedy -- God is near. (Applause.)

In a single instant, we realized that this will be a decisive decade in the history of liberty, that we've been called to a unique role in human events. Rarely has the world faced a choice more clear or consequential.

Our enemies send other people's children on missions of suicide and murder. They embrace tyranny and death as a cause and a creed. We stand for a different choice, made long ago, on the day of our founding. We affirm it again today. We choose freedom and the dignity of every life. (Applause.)

Steadfast in our purpose, we now press on. We have known freedom's price. We have shown freedom's power. And in this great conflict, my fellow Americans, we will see freedom's victory.

Thank you all. May God bless. (Applause.)

Gordon B Hinckley, A Memorial

FirstPresidencynew_medium.jpg

Articles celebrating the Life of the Prophet Gordon B Hinkcley are found on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints web site.

President Thomas S. Monson:

“It was my privilege to know and love President Hinckley long before either of us was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles or the First Presidency. Through the years I have sat next to him, have served with him and have learned from him. I am a witness to his prophetic calling.

“President Hinckley was prodigious in his work ethic and was totally dedicated to the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a friend to one and all and a leader who inspired spirituality. His outreach on an international scale was unprecedented. He was truly a prophet for our time. Like the Master, he devoted his life to doing good, and God was surely with him. His life was a gift to the world.”

Meridian Readers remember President Hinckley

On Fast Sunday in the brand New Year of 1999, my husband and daughter and I attended sacrament meeting in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. President and Sister Hinckley were there in attendance. Pres Hinckley bore his testimony and told the congregation how grateful he was to be there for the meeting and to take the sacrament with us.

Afterwards, our daughter wanted to get in line out in the hallway to shake his hand. We had had that opportunity in the past in our home area, and worried that he might be too tired to deal with a line of greeters. But the line was short that day, so we joined a few other visitors.

When President Hinckley got to my husband and extended his hand to him, my husband started to cry. (I knew he was thinking of other experiences with President Hinckley, such as being ordained a bishop by him back in 1965.) President Hinckley smiled and said, "Where are you from, brother?" My husband managed to say, "California," and then our prophet replied consolingly, "Well, that's not so bad!"

When I told my 16-year-old daughter of the passing of President Hinckley, she cried. We tenderly hugged as we spoke lovingly of our memories of him. We so loved our Prophet!

We went to SLC Conference when she was 12 years old, and we will never forget the sacred experience we shared there. We knew he was a prophet of God and we knew he loved us. Sister Hinckley was alive then and held a special place in our hearts. What a wonderful companion for President Hinckley. We are so grateful for their influence in our lives. Goodbye President Hinckley — we love you!

The memories of our beloved Prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley, will stay in my heart forever. I loved him so much even though I never had a chance to personally meet him. He had a twinkle in his eye and a song in his heart. He truly saw the roses in winter even during his greatest trial of losing his beloved wife, Sister Margorie Hinckley, four years ago.

He was in every prayer I ever uttered. He deserved respect because he first respected us. He loved everyone, as Christ truly loved us all. He won everyone's heart with his genuine ability to see past our sins and inspire us to want to stand a little taller. I wish I could have had a glimpse into Heaven last night around 7pm so I could have seen the reunion with his sweetheart, then with the Savior, Joseph Smith and all the prophets who ever lived.

I cannot imagine how all of Heaven must have shouted for joy knowing that he would join them. President Hinckley, thank you for your devotion to the Lord. Thank you for listening to your father's advice long ago in England when he told you to forget yourself and go to work. Thank you for giving your life to the Lord. I will love you and Sister Hinckley forever, and hope and pray someday I can live worthily enough to be able to meet you.

I am saddened to hear of President Hinckley's passing. I can't help but think of the happiness on the other side of the veil. He will be missed; he warmed my heart and made me smile. I loved his wit and loved to listen to him at conference. Truly a man of God, yes he will be missed in this life, but some day we will see him again.

Thank you for sharing some of your favorite pictures of President Hinkley.

Our feeling for President Hinckley is the loving one. We love him so much for the person he was.

So special in everything he did; a good husband, father and grandfather; a great man of God. He has touched our lives spiritually so much. We remember the 16th of March 2001, when he was here, visiting us in our chapel here in Aruba; it was a great moment for all the members. It was very special for us to hear and see him. We are very thankful, that the spirit send him here to us. We send our deepest love and sympathy for the family.

I worked in the features section at the Deseret News when the new building on First South was dedicated. As part of the dedication, the First Presidency walked through each department shaking hands with every employee.

President Hinckley greeted me and proceeded down the aisle. As President Monson and President Faust shook my hand, I couldn't take my eyes off President Hinckley as he walked through the department. It was not because I'd never seen an LDS Prophet before, as I had. It was because President Hinckley was completely surrounded by a brilliant white light.

I will be eternally grateful that the Lord gave me such a beautiful and powerful witness of this great man. I have been greatly blessed by his wonderful leadership and testimony.

As a student at BYU in the 1970's, I was in Jane Hinckley's ward. I was assigned as her visiting teacher. She was just Jane Hinckley to me; I really didn't know who her father was at the time.

My car was being worked on one day and she gave me a ride to campus. Jane was driving with her roommate seated beside her and I was gabbing with my roommate in the back seat, when I noticed that she was in the Administration parking lot, looking for a parking space. I whispered to my roommate "What is she doing?" wondering why she was in an "A" sticker parking lot (reserved only for senior employees of BYU). My roommate whispered back, "Don't you know who her father is? Gordon B. HinckleyI remember thinking that it was so not fair that Jane got an "A" parking sticker, just for being the daughter of an apostle.

Years later, I read President Hinckley's biography. I loved that book and developed such a love and admiration for President Hinckley. I was in awe of all the service he gave the Church throughout his entire life. That little incident of the BYU parking lot came into my mind and my thoughts about it then were, "Because of her father's great service to the church, Jane Hinckley deserved all the ‘A’ stickers she could have!" She and her family gave up a lot of time with their father because of his devotion to the Lord.

I will miss this great man and can only imagine the beautiful reunion he has had with his sweet wife, Marjorie. I am grateful for his devotion to the Lord and his great example as a follower of the Lord. I was privileged to hear him speak just last week, January 20, at our stake conference. Every time I heard him speak in the past few years, I would wonder if this was the last time. I had those same thoughts as I listened to him, along with 40 other Southern California stakes that day. This time, it was the last time to hear our great prophet speak. Thank you, Gordon B. Hinckley, for the exemplary life you led.

Anything that I say at this time will surely feel inadequate to express my feeling for President Hinckley. He was the president of the Church when I was converted, when my wife and I received our endowments, and when we were eternally married.

He was honored by many of and not of LDS membership. He loved the saints and expressed this love in many discourses, these I will truly miss. Those who have gone on before us will now benefit from his presence and love.

I was a member of one of the choirs who sang at the dedication of the Boise Idaho Temple. I was standing right above President Hinckley. The song was one I loved, and my emotions were overflowing and suddenly a large tear fell right onto the top of President Hinckley's head. I was so embarrassed, but didn't dare stop singing. I am sure he felt the tear, but he never as much as reached his hand up to wipe his head and I didn't dare touch him. I have that memory of him etched in my mind.

I never got to meet President Hinckley in person, but I will be influenced by the spirit of humility and sense of humor that he has. He did a lot to bring the temple to many Latter-Day Saints throughout the world. This is a great benefit to many people. I love him very much and I'm sad that he has passed away. He is with his lovely wife, Marjorie and they can be happy together.

And how do we honor the memory of such a great man? He brought us temples and asked us to use them more often, so we will. He set the standard for charity to all nations, so we must continue to donate and reach out in love to those in distress. He pleaded with us to be kind and loving to all mankind, to behave like true Christians, and so we will leave our political, religious and social differences behind us. He counseled us to be free of debt and leave the entrapments of the world behind, and so we must follow in his footsteps and refocus our eyes on heaven.

There is no better way to honor this prophet of God than to heed his counsel and "get to work"! When we honor him, we honor God.

How we will miss you!

What a wonderful Prophet President Hinckley is! When he came to the San Antonio Texas Temple dedication, I remember the feeling that came with him when he entered the room. The spirit was so strong and overwhelming! He really is a Prophet of God. I just love his humor and
his love for all of us, whether he's met us personally or not. He really loves us all. He will greatly be missed, but how wonderful it is to know that he's with his beloved wife now! What a wonderful thing — to know that families are forever and that we live again when we leave this beautiful earth.

I feel the sadness in his demise, but I know he is now with his beloved wife, and I know he is happy. I always loved to see him speak at conference and other meetings. I knew there was something that the Lord wanted him to speak on, he was truly a prophet of the Lord I will miss him.

When a great light goes out it affects the earth in more ways than we can ever imagine. What happened to many of the computer servers at that time? We are bereft of a great and marvelous soul, one who has done his work with honour and love and great power. When I joined the Church at the age of 38 in 1983, Gordon B. Hinckley was immediately my favorite apostle. I think he was one of the reasons I joined the Church, actually. And he has continued to be my favorite, 25 years later. How I have loved, and continue to love, that dear, sweet, brilliant, funny, sunny man. A light has gone out in the world today with his passing.

How can we possibly have General Conference without President Hinckley? I will miss him forever, but am so happy for his joyous reunion yesterday with his beloved Marjorie. Nevertheless, my heart aches for the world's loss and my loss.

President Hinckley is one of a kind. We have had many great and marvelous modern-day prophets, and we love them all. However, President Hinckley's wit and perfect timing endeared him not only to the members of the Church, but to all he has met around the world. He has been more than a President or Prophet, he has been an ambassador for the Church wherever he has gone, and he will be missed beyond telling.

President Hinckley became part of me because he reminded me of how simple the Gospel really is. The words of the song "Constant as the North Star" comforts me now when I think of him. I don't think any of us can let our sorrow overcome the joy that we feel for him being reunited with his beloved Marjorie. I pray that I may live worthily, doing my best as he has counseled me and rest finally where I can even hear mention of him. I will never be able to think of him without smiling. President Hinckley has surely “shown us how we can.”

Several years ago I wrote a brief letter of thanks to President Hinckley, who at the time was serving as a councilor to President Benson. I noted his yeoman service to the kingdom during that difficult period when both President Kimball and Elder Romney were basically incapacitated and the burden of Church leadership fell so heavily on his able shoulders. In closing I wrote: I am an ordinary man but am a better man because of you and the extraordinary person you have become.

Two weeks later, I received a gracious reply from Elder Hinckley that included the following: You say you are an "ordinary man." No man is ordinary who walks in faith and fidelity in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

I shall miss this great man.

I am deeply saddened by President Hinckley's passing. I think of the wonderful leader, and powerful world influence that is now gone. It is a loss not only for the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but also for the world.

President Hinckley had a unique way of endearing himself to world leaders, public and political figures all the way to the average blue collar worker. His ability to express his beliefs without offence, with genuine kindness no doubt enabled him to become one of the most respected of religious leaders. His keen wit, made him human and personable, and helped win the hearts and love of people world wide. He will be sorely missed!

He is a wonderful, beloved man. His sense of humor and love of the gospel were sweet. I will miss him and will have a loneliness in my heart for him. But I also rejoice for him; he is with his sweet Marjorie and his mother, father, and loved ones. He is with Joseph, Brigham, Mormon, Moroni, Abraham, Noah, just to name a few. He is happy, he served and he served well. He is with Heavenly Father and Jesus. Wow! What more could one desire? I will always love him and be grateful I was on the earth during his reign. I will follow our next prophet with all my heart and soul for I know the gospel is true.

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand: European Socialist defined

The other day I watched the movie version of The Fountainhead.
Fountainhead.jpg

It was on one of those old movie channels, and I had never seen it, although I knew that the book had been made into a movie. The movie was OK, but like all movies made from great books, could not touch the book in terms of depth of the story, etc..

I first read the book when I was a senior in high school, and have read it several times these past 22 years.

Watchin
